The Hebbe Falls are located in Kesavimane of Chikmagalur district. It is 10kms away from Kemmangundi.This place is hidden inside the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. It is among the most beautiful falls in Karnataka. It is also the 6th highest waterfall in Karnataka.The height of this waterfall is approximately 551ft. The water from these falls gushes down in two parts. These two parts are called as Dodda Hebbe and Chikka Hebbe respectively.Dodda Hebbe means Big Falls and Chikka Hebbe means Small Falls.There are coffee estates that surround the falls and the walk to the falls will take one through dense forests with the smell of coffee all around making it a delight for all those visiting the falls.This fall also serves as a natural jacuzzi that has medicinal substances filled in it. These medicinal herbs are believed to offer healing qualities which makes it an interesting place for biologists to visit.


TRANSPORTATION AND BEST TIME TO VISIT THE PLACE

In order to reach Hebbe Falls one can take a bus from Chikmagalur Bus stand. From Kemmangundi one can also take a two way jeep and enjoy the beautiful places on the route. The railway station closest to this place is Tarikere junction after which one will have to take a taxi to reach the falls. One can also drive to these falls in a car. The airport where one can get down to reach here is the Mangalore Airport and then accordingly take a taxi from there to Hebbe Falls. It is said that the best time to visit the Hebbe Falls is during the winter season. There is fog around the hills and the whole experience of visiting the falls becomes amazing. During the rainy season one should not visit this place because the mud here starts to become wet and as a result the surface becomes slippery. It is also said that during the rainy season leeches come out in large numbers here and thus one should avoid visiting this place during the rainy season.

There are many places where one can stay around the Hebbe Falls. ACTIVITIES TO DO AND PLACES TO VISIT

There are many things that one can do at Hebbe Falls. One can go trekking to Hebbe Falls and come across various rare species of plants along the path. When one arrives at the top of the hills, it is easy to spot animals like deer, elephants and even other animals.The road trip to the Falls covers few small ponds on the way. This  location even offers other attractive locations for all the nature lovers.

On the way to the falls there is a  Chowdeshwari Maha Shakthi Devathe Temple. Goddess Chowdeshwari is a family deity especially for the community of the weavers. This is a colorful Hindu Temple with a storied temple of the Goddess. The locals offer their prayers here and also take a dip in the nearby pond.

On the way towards Z point on a trek one comes across the Shanti Falls. Most of the people who visit this place use it as a stopover and then continue on their journey towards the Z point. The water from here flows down and creates a natural pool which is believed to have medicinal properties. Another interesting fact about this waterfall is that the water here remains cold even during summer and thus the visitors make it a point to enjoy a swim here during summers.

The Rose Garden is another interesting place to visit. It is called the Government Rose Garden or even the Jayalalitha Rose Garden after the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha. It is best to visit this place during mid summer because this is when the roses blossom.It is an extremely beautiful place which one should definitely visit.

The Honnamana Halla Waterfalls is  another interesting waterfall to see. It has a height of approximately 30ft. It offers amazing views of the Baba Budangiri Hills.This is a man made waterfall.The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is another place that one can visit. It is known for its rich flora and fauna. This sanctuary has a large tiger population and around 200 species of birds. The Bhadra River that flows through this sanctuary is another spot which one should see.

The Deviramma Temple is another place which one should visit. Deviramma is believed to be an incarnation of the Chamundeshwari at Mysore.There are various tales that go around which state that Chamundeshwari came to rest on the hilltop after destroying the demons. The temple earlier used to be closed on the day of Deepavali because people believed that the Goddess was residing on the hilltop but now it is open all throughout the year. On the next day of Naraka Chaturdashi the devotees herr welcome the Goddess from the hilltop by actually placing a curtain on the opened door of the temple. People believe that when the wind comes and the curtain shakes Deviramma comes there. The original Deviramma statue was found in the 10th century but was later replaced with a carved statue. This temple was recently renovated in the year 2010.

The Ukkada Waterfalls is another tourist attraction. It is an unexplored waterfall but surprises nature and adventure lovers. This place is located inside a coffee plantation on private property in the Muthodi forest. One also gets to see some of the amazing wildlife of the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary here. Many Sambar deer are spotted while trekking to the waterfall. The crystal clear water at the waterfall leaves everyone spellbound. This spot is extremely peaceful and relaxed  and in the surroundings one can hear the birds humming which is a sight to behold.

Thus a trip to the Hebbe Falls is definitely recommended for all those looking for a peaceful and relaxed holiday.
