The Jhari waterfalls are located near Attigundi and are at a distance of 12kms from Baba Budangiri. This waterfall is also known as Buttermilk Falls. It is a popular waterfall in Chikmagalur. This waterfall is naturally formed by springs in the mountains. These falls are also surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations that creates a serene environment around. There is a pool that has been formed in the lower part of the waterfall and the visitors who come here can swim and relax in the pool. Thus the visitor is truly mesmerized by the beauty of nature here.

TRANSPORTATION AND BEST TIME TO VISIT THE PLACE

These Falls are located on a steep and rugged road that passes through private coffee plantations because of which visitors cannot take their own vehicles and drive to the Falls. In order to reach the waterfall one has to stop a few kilometres away from it and only by a jeep ride can one reach there. The price for the same is not very costly. The railway station nearest to the waterfall is the Kadur Junction from where one will have to take a taxi to reach the waterfall. The place is always windy and pleasant. When one reaches the top of this viewpoint they get to see a majestic view of the Chandra Drona mountain range. Recently someone has also drawn a painting of Swami Vivekananda atop the hill and that too is worth seeing.

The Mahatma Gandhi Park is another place that one can visit. Earlier this park was nothing but a thick forest but later it came to be transformed into Mahatma Gandhi Park. The Mahatma Gandhi Park was earlier called as Rathnagiri Bore. There is an amphitheatre here and a number of music, cultural and art shows take place here. The Nehru Rose Garden which is next to the amphitheatre has many varieties of roses. There is also a greenhouse here which has various flora. Another popular attraction here is the toy train for children. There is also a beautiful lotus pond here with many lotus flowers floating on water.

The Kodanda Ramaswamy Temple is another place that one can go to. This temple is located near the Tungabhadra river. It is dedicated to Lord Rama. The architecture of this temple is a mix of both the Hoysala and Dravidian style of architecture. Here there are idols of Lord Rama, his younger brother Laxmana and his wife Sita. All these idols are carved out of a single rock. Many devotees come here to celebrate the Ram Navmi festival.

The Elaneeru Falls are another interesting place to visit. This place is located in the Elaneeru village. The term Elaneeru means tender coconut. This waterfall is white and frothy and thus has been given this name. The Shola grasslands near the waterfalls are a perfect place to have a picnic. At the base of this waterfall is a pool for visitors to take a dip in and the water here is also not too strong.

One can also visit Baba Budangiri. The Baba Budangiri Shrine here is important to both Hindus and Muslims. The grave of Baba Budan who was a Sufi Saint is found here. The Dattatreya Caves here are believed to be inhabited by Dattatreya Swami who was a Hindu deity. It is also believed that Baba Budan went to Mecca and he carried with him seven raw cocoa beans which he planted in these mountains. Trekking to the top of Baba Budangiri is also another interesting experience and also gets to the Mullayanagiri Peak from there.

For all the nature lovers Sitalayyanagiri is a must visit. It is at an altitude of 5000ft above the ground and the view from here is amazing. One also gets to hear the sound of birds chirping to fresh air. The Seethala Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple here has a big Shivlinga which is surrounded by water on all four sides. There is also a beautiful cave here which is decorated with a number of wild flowers and orchids.
