It is also believed that he stayed here for a few months. The Veerabhadreshwara Temple is also located here. This is why the locals consider the water from this fall to be holy.

ACTIVITIES TO DO AND PLACES TO VISIT

There are a number of things that one can do at this waterfall. The first thing being trekking. The trek to the waterfall begins from Tarikere which is the base camp and it is located approximately 24kms away from the Falls. The trek is not very difficult and one can thus enjoy it. This trail is divided into two parts as to how one can reach the waterfall. The first trail begins at Tarikere and will end directly at the Falls. The second trail on the other hand goes through the coffee plantations of Blue Mountains Estate. If one goes through the second trail then a guide is appointed to accompany the trekkers.  The trekking trail offers a magnificent view of the rolling green mountains which surround the Falls. At the end of the trek, the trekkers can even take a dip in the waters of the Kallathigiri Waterfall.

Kallathigiri Waterfalls has abundance of natural greenery. Many cardamom trees are also found here. Various shrubs, vines and other trees are also found along the trekking route to the waterfall. One can spot many animals here too. Some of the animals spotted here are elephants, monkeys,Panthers, spotted deer, bisons and even tigers have been spotted here by travellers who come here to drink water from the Falls.

The Veerabhadreshwara Temple found here was built during the Vijayanagara era. The entrance  of this temple has a structure of  three elephants  which is a proof that this temple was built during the Vijayanagara era because elephants were a characteristic of the traditional Vijayanagara architecture. This temple was built by Krishna Deva Raha who was the sixth ruler of the Sangama Dynasty. There is a three day annual fair held here every year as a tribute to Lord Veerabhadra who is an avatar of Lord Shiva. The best time to visit this place is during the months of March and April when the Temple festival is on. Inside the cave, there are metallic idols of Lord Veerabhadreshwara and Goddess Bhadrakali.  The locals thus consider the water from this Fall to be holy.

The Shiva Temple is another interesting place that one should visit. It is surrounded by splendid rocks and is free from any disturbance. This Temple has a unique construction. These rocks have been cut up and decorated beautifully with indegeneous art. Thus the  rock paintings and sculptures of the deities are definitely worth watching. Thus this temple is considered important to both locals and tourists.

One can also visit the Amrutesvara Temple in the town of Amruthapura. The history of this town can be traced back to the Hoysala period when this temple was made here. During the rule of the Hoysala King Ballala II this town gained importance and it was because Amrita-dandanayaka who was a general in the army of the King that the Amrutesvara Temple was built. It was who also set up 24 Brahmin families around the Temple. Amruthapura is also famous because on a stone was engraved an inscription that was written by the thirteenth century Kannada Poet Janna who was a poet in the four of King Ballala II. After the Hoysala period this town again lost its importance and no references or inscriptions of this town are found.

Balehonnur is another place that one can visit because there are plenty of coffee plantations here. This place is also the seat of Shrimad Jagadguru Rambhapuri Veersimhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha. The matha here has mystical connections to the Rambha who is a celestial dancer. Thus this matha is one of the five great panchacharya mathas. There is a bridge called the Balehonnur Bridge that was constructed across the Bhadra River.

Thus, Kallathigiri Waterfalls is truly an amazing place to visit.
