Near the Western Ghats near Khanapur, Bhimgad Adventure Camp is only a two-hour drive from Goa, Kolhapur, and Hubli. The Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is renowned for housing the endangered Wroughton's Free-tailed Bat, inspired its name.

In the Indian state of Karnataka, close to Jamboti Village, in the Western Ghats, lies a protected area known as Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary. Bhimgad Sanctuary, a region of moist tropical and subtropical broadleaf forests, was ultimately designated as a wildlife sanctuary in December 2011.
The Wroughtn's free-tailed bat, an endangered species on the verge of extinction, has its only known nesting location in the Barapede caves in the Bhimgad woods. Other endangered plant and animal species are also found in the sanctuary.
