Where is Tadoba Forest Reserve?
Tadoba forest reserve is located in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. It is the state’s oldest and biggest national park. It covers a vast area of 625.4 square miles This includes both the Tadoba national park and Andhari sanctuary. Tadoba reserve encompasses the Chimur Hills, and the Andhari sanctuary borders with the Moharli and Kolsa ranges. Dense forests cover the north and western sides. The cliffs and caves provide refuge to several animals. As one traverses from north to south, the hills are replaced by smooth meadows and fertile valleys. The Tadoba hills and Andhari range enclose this reserve.
Legend
The name is derived from the name Tari which is the goddess worshipped by the tribals who live deep inside the forest. The river Andhari river flows through the reserve According to legend, the chief of the village was killed in a mythological encounter with a tiger. There is now a dedicated shrine for him in the reserve which the tribals visit and worship during their annual festival.
Climate
The climate in this reserve is varied across months. Winter is between November to February with temperatures rolling between 25-30 degree Celsius. Summers are very hot with the mercury rising up to 50 degrees. Vegetation and water are scarce. Monsoons drench the whole reserve in splashes of cool drops with petrichor reeking in the damp air
Lake Telia
Lake Telia is located right in the middle of the forest reserve. This has been the quencher of thirst for many a thirsty bird. Avid bird watchers can spot the Indian Pitta, paradise flycatcher, orange-headed thrush. The bank of this river glows in a myriad of strange hues making it a treat to watch in the glimmering sunlight. Stroll along the banks or opt for a quiet picnic on a sunny evening to watch the lake shimmer like the fiery opal in the translucent sunlight. Trails: The reserve has so much to offer for the nature lover and it can be as simple as hiking the rugged terrain. Wake up to the melody of birds that sing along with the morning sunshine. Watch out for the flutter of wings against the crimson sky and diamond-like dew drops on the tall grass that grows in thick bunches in this reserve. Walk along the rutted path to immerse yourself in a true wilderness experience
Lake Tadoba
Legend says that in the former era the forest ran out of the water and invoked the Gods for a spot of water. When the heavens were kind enough to drench the land, and it flooded the entire region. strategically placing a rock enclosed the flow of water and thus a lake was formed. The lake is a thriving home to the Muggar crocodiles. There are specified watchtowers that you can use to spot animals. Panchadhara waterhole, Vasant Bhandara waterhole. The Vasant Bhandara waterhole is a trek about 5km and is worth traversing. Panchadhara is good for spotting tigers.

This trek is a must try the activity in your trip to Tadoba. The trek is about 5km long and is a haven for avid trekkers. The trek is relatively easy to cover. Be mesmerised on the way with the chirping of many birds. If you thought that your palette was restricted to the colours of the rainbow, be prepared to be astounded as you witness the spectacular kaleidoscope of butterflies that fill the air with variegated hues.
Flora
The dense canopy at Tadoba is definitely worth mentioning. Dendrophiles can spend mulling over the various species of trees that thrive here. I intertwined bamboo trees with a ray of sunshine seeping through the leaves, forming little patches of cool shadows. There are teak trees which also are conveniently In the protected area of the forest grows some trees like Haldu,Sheesham, Kurlu ber, axle wood, crocodile bark among others. Vivid flame of forest blooming in patches adds a shade of tangerine hue to the emerald cover. plum trees dot the waterhole. Velvet bean which is known to treat Parkinson’s disease grows in abundance. Medicinal plants like Bhija, Bheria and Beheda are also found here. The forest is also home to Arjun trees.
Safari at Tadoba
The safari is an experience that is beyond description. It has to be felt, and the connection that is established is a strong bond. Spot many a sloth bear which drives termites to their mounds, peacocks strutting in their dazzling viridescent hues of feathers, an occasional tiger which stops for a drink of water. Keep an eye out for the Indian python, monitor lizard, Russell’s viper, star tortoise. It is also a birders paradise. Indian pitta, brown fish owl, warblers, Pied Bush chat, Indian robin over many others The safari is an elaborate activity that you have to plan over a couple of days to soak in the wilderness, to spot all the animals in leisure without worrying about time. since the park is protected, excursions are limited to the duration of daylight only. Each safari is limited to 4hours. Only park administrators and guides are allowed to operate the jeeps for safari. The reserve is home to more than 80 tigers and as to move along the rutted terrain, the striped cat is sure not to disappoint
