Telegraph Route to Isfjord Radio

Begin your adventure into the wilderness at Basecamp Hotel before spending two days camping under the stars, scouring for the magical Northern Lights and exploring the far reaches of the Arctic. Watch for wildlife and travel by husky sled before recuperating in luxury with a stay at Isfjord Radio, a converted radio station turned comfortable wilderness hotel. This safari takes you to some of the most impressive landscapes imaginable. 

What makes this trip extraordinary?

  • Step outside of Longyearbyen and into the wilderness.
  • Spend two nights in a tented camp in the wild, and try to spot the Aurora Borealis.
  • Experience and learn the adventurous way of travelling with a husky sled.
  • Stay at Isfjord Radio, a converted radio station in Svalbard.
  • Look for wildlife hiding between snowy peaks and vast white landscapes.

This is a small group safari departing on set dates. The price of this safari includes: Accommodation and meals as stated (B – Breakfast, L – Lunch, D – Dinner); activities and transfers as listed in the itinerary; English-speaking guides throughout; warm outer suit, gloves, goggles and balaclava; all camping equipment; search and rescue insurance; CO2 and climate investment fee.

    Arrive Longyearbyen

    Today you arrive into Longyearbyen, Svalbard’s capital. On arrival, transfer by shuttle bus to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore this enchanting city where you can find more snowmobiles than people. This afternoon, meet your guide at 15:00 at the Basecamp Hotel reception for an introduction to your program for the next few days. You will also be provided with a list of all the equipment you will need.

    Longyearbyen – Bolterdalen – Tented Camp

    After a hearty breakfast, you will meet your guide in the reception area of Basecamp Hotel at 10am. Once it has been checked that you have all the equipment needed, you will make your way to the Trapper's Station in Bolterdalen, where you will be met by 90 excited Alaskan huskies! Throughout your trip, you will need to take care of your own team, but don’t worry – your guide will be on hand to help and will show you how to harness your dogs and mush your own team. Once you’ve harnessed your team, you will head out into Bolterdalen towards Isfjord Radio, where you will experience your first lunch in the wilderness. Your first day will see you drive past majestic mountains. You will set up camp approximately halfway to Isfjord Radio, where you will look after your team before enjoying a nice meal in the tent. Spend your first night outside underneath the stars – you may even spot the Aurora Borealis!

    Tented Camp - Isfjord Radio

    You and your team will enjoy breakfast before you prepare for another day of incredible adventure with your trusty team. Dog sledding in Svalbard is a truly unique experience, where the silence around you will only be broken by the panting of the dogs and the scraping of the sled runners on the snow. As with the previous day, you will eat lunch out in the field where you can absorb the amazing views around you. Later in the day you will arrive into Isfjord Radio where you will be welcomed by your host. Check in and enjoy a three-course meal later in the evening!

  4. Day 4

    Isfjord Radio

    Wake up after some well-earned rest and eat your fill of breakfast. After breakfast, you will head out with your guide and team for a short dog sled trip before returning to the station in time for a hot lunch. The afternoon will be spent on a guided tour of the station area. If you’re up to it you can also experience a bath in the Arctic Sea and a trip to the sauna afterwards, followed by a three-course dinner.

  5. Day 5

    Isfjord Radio – Tented Camp

    Today you will begin the journey back to civilisation! After breakfast, pack your expedition gear and harness the dogs. Along the return route you will make some interesting stops. The conditions can be demanding, but the expedition will give you an unforgettable adventure as you make your way through the majestic Svalbard wilderness. In the afternoon, set up camp and make dinner for you and your team, then get some rest before your early start in the morning.

  6. Day 6

    Tented Camp - Longyearbyen

    This is your last day out in the wild and in order to make the most of it you will be getting up early! Today you will complete the last leg of the journey back to Longyearbyen with your incredible team of dogs leading the way. Once you reach Basecamp Trapper’s Station, you will have time to care for your tired team before returning to Longyearbyen in the afternoon. Check in to Basecamp Hotel and spend the rest of the evening at your own leisure.

    Depart Longyearbyen

    Today signals the end of your unforgettable journey in Svalbard. Check out of your hotel after breakfast and take the shuttle back to the airport in time for your international flight home.

Refund

Life is unpredictable and we understand that sometimes you have to cancel or change your trip dates and it is our endeavor to make it as easy as possible for you. However, please understand that we plan everything including guide fees, permits, accommodation, and ration in advance. Therefore, any cancellation means inconvenience and certain losses to the people involved in various stages of the program. Keeping that in mind, our cancellation charges are as below,

  • Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the event: Full refund as cash.
  • Cancellations between 30 days and 15 days to the start of the event: 50 % refund as cash.
  • Cancellations less than 15 days to the start of the event: No refund.
  • Cancellations will be accepted only by email.

Note: We reserve the right to cancel a program before departure in the event of logistical problems arising due to natural calamities, strikes, wars or any other circumstances that make the event inadvisable. In this case, we will refund 50% of the event fees.
