Har-ki-Dun

Located in the middle of the cradle shaped valley below Fateh Parvat, Har-ki-dun Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Western Himalayas. This valley can be reached by trekking through Govind National Park. The park is known for its rich variety of flora and fauna. Har-ki-dun or “Valley of the Gods” is a U shaped valley with a terrific contrast of alpine meadows along ridges and glacier basins, surrounded by towering peaks. Trekkers also have the opportunity to explore the Himalayan wildlife as well. No Prior experience of Himalayan trekking is required. The trails are quite manageable and not high on gradient. The trek promises a good view of the towering 5000 to 6000 meter Himalayan peaks, namely Swaragrohini massif, Fateh Parvat, Kalanag and Bandarpoonch ranges. The village life as seen at Osla, Sankri and Taluka is an experience in itself, it feels as if the native village tribes of the region have frozen in time. The local villagers of the valley are known as Parwati and claim their descent from the “Kauravas” clan of Mahabharata. From temples, to caves, to scenic villages, to rocky mountain peaks, to glaciers, to the wonderful local architecture, this trek promises a mixture of natural beauty and history!

You can find temples and caves dedicated to Duryodhana, the Kaurava prince, in Osla village. For people who love to see flowers, we can visit a place called Haata (optional). The meadows here are almost fully carpeted with alpine flowers and make a very pleasing sight. The path follows the tons river from Netwar village up through the scenic villages of Gangad, Seema and Osla. Within the valley one can find Trees of Bhojpatra, the rare Bramhakamal, and many varieties of fauna. Towards west one can see the Bandar Punch Mountain. People here depend on farming Rice, Rajma, and Potatoes for their survival. Their way of living is quite fascinating due to its simplicity, yet intricacy as well. A series of beautiful double storied houses are constructed using Cider wood rafters, stones and mud, often decorating the doorways with beautiful woodcarvings. The carvings depict tales from the Mahabharata. The inhabitants here are an ingenuous lot, and the construction of the houses not only looks aesthetic, but are also energy efficient as well as earth quake resistant.
