Hampta pass (which is what this trek is all about), connects two magnificent and beautiful valleys: Lahaul and Kullu. While Lahaul valley is rocky terrain, Kullu valley is flush with green meadows. And it is this variation in landscape that makes Hampta Pass trek like no other trek in terms of experience and easiness from trekkers perspective. Hampta Pass is approximately 35 Kms trek and altitude or height gain goes upto 4,270 meters / 14,000 ft. This trek derives its name from Hampta village which is situated below Sethan village, and is part of the trek route. Highlight of this trek is a drive to Chandra Taal lake (named after moon due to its crescent shape, thus making it lake of the moon), which is situated at the altitude of 4270 meters above sea level.

Itinerary
Today you will be driven to jobra from Manali by jeep, the place from where the trek starts. Here you will be briefed about dos and don’ts by your respective trek leader and be prepared by them to gear up for trek with easy ascent of 10,400 ft to Chika. You will hardly realize the climb as the topography of Himachal is completely mesmerizing. We will soon encounter Rani river and big rocky hills on the other side of it. The trek trails passes through many such spectacular landscapes.
This place is named balu ka Ghera as it is famous for brown bears walking along the rectangular valley where you will find multicolored tiny flowers. You won’t find trees on this trail for long time. While walking alongside the trail, you will cross the valley in about 30 minutes. Further across the rocks you need to cross snow / river flows cautiously and post that you will reach balu ka ghera. Balu ka Ghera is bed of Sand. This Sand was brought down by the river. Now You would have reached an altitude of approx 11,000 Ft above sea level.
Today is the day when you will experience the barren landscape of the Lahaul valley of Himalayas. Such great variations in one region is what makes Hampta pass one of the most amazing treks. The trails from Balu ka ghera along the riverside is lined by tiny pleasant purple pink and yellow flowers. The beauty of Hampta pass cannot be explained in words. The trail is moderate with sharp descent in the end. This is where you will find the most surprising element: view of field full of snow and this is covered throughout the entire year. The descent will end with a flat surface with many boulders all over the place. Very soon you will encounter Rani river and big rocky hills on the other side of it. The trek trails passes through such spectacular landscapes.
It’s a gentle descent from Siagoru, moving alongside the river in the valley between the mountain ranges are group of Pir Panjal ranges of the inner Himalayan circle which appear before you. Landscape ahead is all rocky, all the way upto till you reach Chatru base camp. Enjoy the spectacular view of a high altitude cold desert at these valley. Later, we will drive to Chandratal lake, a moon shaped alpine lake located at an altitude 14000 ft above sea level. One of the most enchanting lakes of this region, such that you may fall in love with this place. Watching Himalayan reflection in the lake is like cherry on cake. After spending sometime at Chandratal lake, we will drive back to Chatru camp site with overnight stay.
Your final day, we head back from Chatru campsite to Manali by road. It is about 5-6 hours road drive by jeep, with winding road via Rohtang Pass (3980mts). Once we reach Manali, its a final goodbye from our side. Move to your homeward journey with a bag full of memories, snaps and adventure stories.
