Devbagh Beach Resort
A young Rabindranath Tagore once made a moonlit tryst with destiny on the magical Karwar shoreline. A midnight boat ride with his friends on a river that had transformed into a silver moon glade and a trek across the bathed-in-white sands of the Karwar Beach, was the young Rabindranath’s epiphany. The place where he found his calling. That night he penned “Prakritir Pratishoota” or ‘Nature’s Revenge’, his very first play – the piece that Tagore prized as the genesis of his literary career. Karwar is a destination. Sometimes it’s the closest you reach within yourself.

Devbagh is a stop for the quintessential beach lover. Sun, sand, surf, sea and endless open space, Devbagh is the next best thing to having a beach all to yourself. Between building sandcastles, combing the shore for seashells, endless beach volleyball games, snorkelling and relaxing and letting the sea wash all your worries away, Devbagh opens a world of serenity and discovery: where you can be one with the elements. For the rest, there’s snorkelling, speed boat cruises, bananaboat rides and para-sailing. When was the last time you wandered and just let time do the same? At Devbagh you must. The nearby fishing village is a delight, with its fishermen coming in with their fresh catch and the flurry of fisherfolk sorting the bounty. There’s only one thing more exciting that watching a catamaran coming in, and that’s going out to sea on it. If you aren’t content to just watch the fishermen casting off their nets, you can try your hand at angling by taking a two-man dugout with a fisherman for company. The trawlers at the fishing harbour, heavy and full from their catch are hard to miss. Or you can retrace Tagore’s course and make a pilgrimage of sorts out of it. Cruise up the River Kali from the point where the river meets the sea and you’ll be rewarded by the sight of frolicking dolphins. The nearby mangrove thickets are a good opportunity for bird sightings. The islands of Kumaragarh, Oyster-rock, Anjudeep and Sanyasi that lie off the Karwar coast are steeped in myth, surprise and magic. The Sanyasi Rock, the legend goes, was where a sanyasi picked to do his penance and despite being absolutely cut off from humanity, lived to a ripe old age. If you’re in the mood to do a Robinson Crusoe, we can arrange a “castaway” experience for you. At Oyster-rock, one of the oldest and quaintest lighthouse from the British Raj era await you. Over your holiday, you can learn the art and science of lighthouse keeping. The Gol Ghar, our group dining hall, serves a delectable buffet spread of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine. The seafood is highly recommended. If you want to extend your holiday in and around Karwar, you’ve got a good mix of experiences a few hours away:
- Mountains, valleys and outdoor camping await you at our Kali Adventure Resort at Dandeli
