Vythiri is a hill station that lies in Wayanad district, one of the loveliest hill stations in Kerala. This green paradise, located at a distance of 90kms from the sea shores of Kozhikode. The name, Wayanad, is believed to have been derived from the word, Vayal nadu, meaning the land of paddy fields.
Vythiri is a beautiful hill station well known for its tea, coffee and spice plantations. It is an unpolluted hill station and consists of luxuriant greenery and the view of the hill station is breathtaking. It is best to visit this hill station during the monsoon season. The forest here is an evergreen rain forest and is rich in a wide variety of wildlife which includes Nilgiri Langur, Malabar squirrel etc. The hills here are ideal for mountain climbing and trekking. Description Of Vythiri
As Vythiri hill station houses the Evergreen Rain Forests, it is rich in wildlife characteristic of evergreen forests. Wild animals like Nilgiri langur, thrush and Malabar squirrel frequent the branches of the trees at the hill station at Vythiri. One of the charming tourist attractions at Vythiri hill station is the tree- house. Small lodgings made of wood are perched at the top of the trees of tropical rain forests above 90 ft from the ground. Vythiri has most of the popular preparations of a typical Keralan menu, from essentials like Appams and Idlis to the delicious Payasam. One can try out Ghee Roast Dosa and Malayalee Parotha, Biriyani as well as the popular Toddy.
October to April (winter) is the best time to visit Vythiri, however, the pleasant climate makes Vythiri worth a visit throughout the year. Summer (April to June) is the best off-season time to visit Vythiri.
The off-season prices are a steal as well, with accommodation at luxurious resorts and homestays costing way lesser than seasonal prices. The hill station of Wayanad experiences 20 days of rainfall per month between July and September (monsoon) and Vythiri is no exception. There is a risk of landslides as well, so speak to the local authorities before you plan a visit to Vythiri in the monsoon.
By Road- One can also take a road route to reach the picturesque hill station of Vythiri. The place lies at a convenient distance of two hour drive away from Kozhikode. Kozhikode city lies at a distance of 66 kilometers away from Vythiri. Frequent buses ply between Kozhikode and Vythiri.
