Beach Description
The island is a narrow strip of land, stretched to the North and South. It's only 600m long and the entire area covers 8.9 hectares. At the southern end, far out in the sea, there is a sandbank, which gave the name to the whole island ("veligandu" - spit, shoal in the language of Divehi). This is one of the best beaches of the island, equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, Thundi beach bar and panoramic outdoor swimming pool.
The shore is surrounded by picturesque, densely populated with exotic underwater inhabitants, reef. It has a small passage through which turtles, manta rays and other rare marine fauna enter the lagoon. Also on the beach people can often see herons, which proudly strut on the white sand.
In the evening there are discos, maldivian traditional parties and other entertaining events. The bar is round the clock and offers a variety of beverages and light snacks.
The Northern beach is more intimate and sparsely populated and is surrounded by water bungalows on all sides. Wooden pierces are comfortable to watch the underwater world and to feed fish with bread crumbs. In the distant Water Villas is an Athiri Bar with an amazing ocean view. From its open terrace, ladders descend into the water, so visitors can combine pleasant gatherings with water entertainment.
The Northern part of the island goes into the center of an atoll, so there is no wind and the sea is calm and quiet. On the first line there is a luxury Jacuzzi Beach Villa, each of them has its own personal piece of beach. The main bay of the Western side is an ideal starting point for scuba enthusiasts, there is a diving center and sports equipment rental.
The Eastern part of the island goes into an open ocean, so people here can meet tortoises, moray eels, stingrays, reef sharks and dolphins. The reef here is more tighter, and the streams are more powerful, so that should be noticed by beginners in scuba diving. On the first line there are luxury villas with their own beaches and leisure areas, cheaper bungalows are located 100m from the shore along the palms and mangrove.
How To Reach Veligandu Island Resort
Veligandu Island is simply a paradise on earth that is affordable. With quiet beaches and relaxed vibe, the ambiance itself is very warm. Surrounded by an eye-catching lagoon, the sandy beach is just 20 minutes away from the airport, if you travel on a seaplane. You can find warm water and turquoise lagoons pinned with some colorful coral reefs and marine life and the entire scenario is just something we could possibly dream of.

The Trans Maldivian Airways provide seaplane for the tourists to reach the island. Once you set foot in the Maldives, you need to clear out the immigration and customs formalities as required and the representative will assist you further. Within a 10 min shuttle bus ride, you will reach the TMA Terminal. The seaplane travel is scheduled within one hour after the required checks are done.
The seaplane is available only in the daylight hours, i.e., 6 AM to 6 PM. Airline policies do not allow passengers to post that.
