Rajmachi Fort is a historical fort nestled in the lap of the magnificent hills of the Western Ghats. This fort, 95 km from Mumbai, is the favorite destination of trekkers. People from far away come here for trekking. From Rajmachi Fort you can see an unprecedented view of Bor Ghat.

This magnificent fort was built by the Satavahanas though it was captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1657. This fort has seen the time from British occupation to independence and is still maintaining its heritage. As soon as the Maratha rule ended in 1818, this fort was completely captured by the British. However, after India gained independence, this fort was declared an ancient heritage site and a protected monument of Maharashtra. Rajmachi Fort, which became the center of attraction for the tourists now, used to be a major trade route in the olden times. The fort is surrounded by greenery during the monsoon season, as a result of which the tourists who come here feel refreshed. The ponds and waterfalls present near the fort enhance the beauty of this fort. Lonavala track 16 km from Rajmachi is famous for hiking on flat land. The trek starts from Rajmachi village and ends at the fort. Once you complete the Rajmachi trek, you can go to the Rajmachi Fort.

 

When to visit Rajmachi Fort? 

The best time to trek on Rajmachi Fort is after the monsoon. Because crossing the water stream during monsoon season can be difficult and dangerous for the trekkers. Two trails are present for trekking at Rajmachi Fort. The easiest of these is Lonavala. It will take two days to trek here. One day camping and another day visiting Rajmachi Fort.

 

How to reach Rajmachi fort? 

By Air: Nearby airports to Rajmachi are Pune and Mumbai Airport from where you can take the train or cab to Lonavala or Karjat and start your trekking journey. 

By Train: You can also reach Karjat or Lonavala by taking a local train from Mumbai and start your trekking journey from Kondivade or Tungarli village. 

By Road: You can also take the Mumbai-Pune route to reach Rajmachi Fort. Several cabs are available at Mumbai or Pune airport you can rent a cab once you reach the airport.
