Weligama Beach

23km east of Unawatuna Bay Beach, the fishing town of Weligama which means sandy Village in Sinhalese. Wanders around a broad and lovely bay, dotted with rocky outcrops and bordered with fine brilliant sand. As you enter the beautiful town of Weligama from Unawatuna, the street parts with one branch running along the coast, and the other running parallel through the town center. Weligama is calm yet appealing. A cluster of shops at the inside trails off into rich lanes of beautiful gingerbread villas decorated with luxurious wooden fretworks, looking out from thick, green tropical gardens.
