
TAWANG
1. Tawang Monastery

It is located in the middle of beautiful surroundings. The Tawang Monastery is also known as the Golden Namgyal Lhatse and is one of the gems found in Arunachal Pradesh. This monastery is located at the height of 3,000 metres above sea level. It has been identified as the second largest monastery in the world, and the first one being Lhasa. The monastery is said to be 400 years old and has control over 17 gompas in the region. It is built as a huge mansion, it is home for over 300 monks. The monastery is nestled amidst the Himalayan ranges, and it offers a heart stopping view of the Tawang-Chu valley. One of the most popular attractions in the monastery houses is the huge statue of Lord Buddha which is almost 8 meters in height. The three-storeyed building of the monastery was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso to fulfil the wish of Nagwang Lobsang Gyatso, the 5th Dalai Lama in 1860-61. It belonged to the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism and had a religious cooperation with Drepung Monastery of Lhasa, which continued during the period of British rule.
2. Madhuri Lake

As it is home to the Himalayas, Arunachal Pradesh is home to many breathtaking lakes but none as beautiful and enrapturing as the Madhuri Lake which is also known as Sangetsar Lake. It is one of the remotest lakes of the country and perhaps of the world as wel., Sangetsar or Madhuri Lake is a beautiful combination of rocky mountains and an ever- present lake whose beauty is more than just spellbinding. The lake was made famous due to its appearance in the Bollywood movie Koyla and is also known as Madhuri Lake after being named after the lead actress in the movie. The Madhuri Lake located at a height of 12,000 feet above sea level and just 30 kilometres north-east of Tawang. This lake is a sight to behold, as it is nestled between massive mountains in the heart of the Himalayas with many straight tree trunks standing in its belly as if guarding the lake. It holds a very important place in the hearts of Buddhists of both India and nearby Tibet who come here every year to pray. Madhuri Lake is a gift of nature which amazes you, dazzles you and refreshes your soul.
3. Nuranang Falls

Nuranang falls is a largely unknown place, located deep in the forest of Tawang. Nuranang Falls offers a immaculate and beautiful experience. It is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country, the Nuranang Falls are a breathtaking white sheets of water that descends from the height of about 100 meters. A part of the Nuranang River which arises at Sela Pass, Nuranang Falls is largely unknown to the popular tourist trail making it an offbeat and peaceful spot. Popular as the BTK waterfall, the Bap Ten Kang has crystal clear water which heightens your spirits and encourages you to indulge in swimming.
4. Sela Pass

It is one of the most alluring places in the Himalayan vista. Sela Pass is a salvation for the people of Arunachal Pradesh, and it is as blissful as it gets. The Sela Pass and Himalayas combine to captivate one and all by their mystic beauty. Sela Pass is one of the most breathtaking bounties of nature to the North-East. Sela Pass is a lifeline for the people of Arunachal Pradesh as it is the only way that connects Tawang district of the state to the rest of the country. Besides its geographical importance, Sela Pass is a beautiful place which is always covered in snow providing some breathtakinglviews of the eastern Himalayan range. The rocky pass is also home to one of Arunachal's most alluring lakes - the Sela Lake. As it is in a sensitive region, one needs an inner line permit to visit Sela Pass to relish its beauty.
5. Gorichen Peak

Gorichen Peak is the highest peak of Arunachal Pradesh and it is located amidst Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh. It is situated at a height of 22,500 feet above sea level, and this peak is almost 164 kilometre from Tawang. The peak is known as Sa-Nga Phu locally, which literally means the Kingdom of Deity and is believed to be one of the sacred peaks protecting them from all the evils according to the local Monpa tribe. This peak is a very popular and amazing trekking and mountaineering spot not only for the locals but for people all over the country.
6. Tawang War Memorial

Tawang war memorial is a 40 feet colourful structure. This War Memorial is dedicated to all the martyrs of the Sino- India War of 1962. It lies in the bosom of the breath-taking peaks of Himalayas. The memorial overlooks the beautiful view of the Tawang Chu valley.
7. P.T Tso Lake

This beautiful lake is located almost 25 kilometres from Tawang town. This immensely picturesque locale is an ideal tourist site. It is marvellous for picnics, depending on the weather. The peaceful atmosphere and mesmerizing surroundings are sure to leave tourists spellbound.
8. Jaswant Garh

It is located 21 kilometres away from Sela Pass, towards Tawang. This place is dedicated to the warrior, Jaswant Singh who was killed during the Indo-China War in 1962. This site is open to all who want to pay tribute to this brave martyr.
