Tamarin Beach is on the west coast of Mauritius near the village of Black River. If you love to surf then this is one of the most picturesques and beautiful places to visit in Tamarin Mauritius. Other than surfing you can also indulge in bodyboarding, stand up paddle boarding, catamaran tours, swimming with dolphins, speed boat rides, kayaking and lots more.

This is a great beach for a relaxing afternoon with families and friends where you can enjoy a leisurely picnic or just laze around in the sun. The surrounding mountains make for a great backdrop for landscape photography.

On weekdays the beach is usually peaceful and calm with a lot less people. However, during the weekends it is filled with locals who visit with their families and friends, tourists and visitors from around the island.

Description of Tamarin Beach in Mauritius

Located on the southwest coast of Mauritius, Tamarin Beach sits on the opposite side of a river to Montage du Rempart mountain. Originally brought to wider international attention by surfers, a gap in Tamarin Beach’s coral reef allows large waves to reach its white sands.

Surrounded by salt flats, Tamarin Beach extends close to 1.5 kilometres in length, although much of its size is lost to the incoming waves at high tide. Although there are few facilities at Tamarin Beach, it does get quite crowded at times, and is the start point for both dolphin-spotting trips and angling adventures.

Things to do at Tamarin Beach in Mauritius

  1.     Surfing

Tamarin Beach is one of the hottest surfing destinations in Mauritius since the 1970s. Surfers from every corner of the country come here to surf its beautiful waves. Winter is considered the best time to surf in the sparkling water of the Tamarin Beach. Other water activities include bodyboarding, speedboat rides, catamaran tour, stand up paddling and kayaking. The two main surfing spots on the beach are known as ‘Dal’ (to the south), and ‘Black Stone’ (to the North), and with the beach generally staying mostly empty all day long, you can choose to surf the waves at any given point in the day.

  1.     Dolphin watching

Watching and swimming with the dolphins is the most loved activity for tourists and locals alike. These boat tours usually take place early in the morning when there is a higher probability of getting face to face with the marine creatures. The two types of dolphins that can be seen in Mauritian water include Bottlenose and Spinners.

  1.   Watching the Sunset

Tamarin Beach is also ideal for lazing and relaxation. Admire the charm of the picturesque Black River backdrop while watching the sunset or enjoy an evening stroll with friends or family. This beach has it all.
