1.      Sringerisharadamba temple

This temple (SringeriSharadamba Temple) is the most famous of the tourist attractions in the town.  This is an 8th-century temple founded by Shri AdiShankaracharya. SringeriSharadamba temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi and is located on the banks of river Tunga.

What is more interesting is the legend about it. It explains the source of the carvings that are found within the temple. The legend states that Shankaracharya, the founder of the temple, was walking along the banks of the river where he saw a cobra providing shelter to a frog, which was in labour pain. This impressed Shankaracharya. A snake is supposed to eat a frog, but this one showed mercy to the frog and provided shelter from the hot sun. He decided to build a temple in this place where enemies could turn into a protector. The evidence of this is there is a sculpture known as KappeShankara at the banks of the river.

2.      Vidyashankara temple


This is another temple located close to Sharadamba temple.  This temple is dedicated to Lord Siva and was built in the 14th century during the Vijaynagar Empire. The temple is built by a combination of architectural styles, which makes it marvellous to see. It has twelve pillars, which are a sign of the twelve zodiac signs. What is so amazing about the pillars is that they are placed in such a way that the sun rays fall on each of them in order of the months. There are so many monuments that you cannot miss. 1.      Sirimane waterfalls


This fall is only 12 kilometres away from Sringeri. It is one of the falls in Karnataka. It has a height of $o feet. However, it becomes impossible to get there when there are heavy rains.

2.      Hanumangundi falls


This fall, also known as Soothanabbi falls, 36 kilometres away from Sringeri. The forest is located inside the Kudremukh National park. This forest is the source of River Netravati. This is the place you can go to enjoy the beauty of nature, especially when you have been from Sringeri.

3.      Lakhya dam


It is a dam that was built by the Kundremukh iron ore company to be a place for exposing waste from the company’s mining activities. However, mining activities were stopped due to the environmental danger it posed to the environment. This is a dam constructed along river Lakhywhich is a tributary of Bhadra River.  It is surrounded by trees around it, making it an excellent relaxing place.

How to reach Sringeri?

Sringeri does not have airports or railways. The best way to connect to Sringeri is by using roads, which can be used from major cities. Visitors from abroad can use the Mangalore international airport, which is only 66 kilometres away. From there they can use the road to reach Sringeri. There are conventional vehicles, which ply from there. The nearest rail station is in Bangalore. Again, from there, you can use the road to get to Sringeri. Inside Sringeri, there are buses and cabs that can take you anywhere.

When is the best time to visit Sringeri?

The best time to visit is during the winter, which is from October to March. At this time, the temperatures are bearable, and rainfall is not that high. Avoid the summer when the temperatures are very high. Sringeri is a must-visit the place. This temple town with over 40 temples is a place that you get to know the history of the past.
