The Shivasamudram Falls, located in the Mandhya district of the state of Karnataka, is widely famed for the twin falls which consist of it. Established nearly 120 kilometres from the capital, Bangalore, the Gangachukki and the Bharachukki falls make up the Shivasamudram. This place is a bountiful island region which has got such a majestic ambience that is not to be missed at any cost. These falls are formed due to the river Kaveri dropping off into the gorge after meandering through the Deccan Plateau region. It is at this position that the falls part into different segments after which they meet together at a later point along the pathway. Set within a pristine location, these falls hold the title of being the second largest falls in the country and the sixteenth largest in the world.

Shivasamudram Falls The two segments of the falls, Ganganachukki present to the eastern side and Bharachukki to the western side, are about a kilometre from each other. The power from the hydroelectric plant was earlier used to provide power for the Kolar Gold Fields.

The flow of the Ganganachukki falls is somewhat similar to that of the Niagara Falls, with a certain ‘u’ shape to it. From the clock tower, the branching of the dives can be observed. Temples to see

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple found here is constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture. Sri Ranganathaswamy here is also related to as "Madhya Ranga", who is highly respected by Sri Vyshanava devotees among others. Madhya Ranga is an antique temple housing a magnificent idol, yet being placed remotely sees fewer visitors. The temple often remains sealed to visitors as the local priest is not reliable, and the Karnataka government temple authority has done little to support and promote this place. There are three more extra temples on three other sides of the island.

The aged Sri Someshwara Temple is another well-known temple here at Sivasamudram. Adi guru Sri Shankaracharya is said to have attended this place and set a "Sri Chakra". It is unusually believed that the SomeshwaraLinga here has been much before the Ranganantha idol and that the Saptarshis was doing pooja and worshipping this Linga.

The ShakthiDevathe temple of Vanadurga Devi is 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) away from the Someshwara temple.
