The Sakleshwara Temple is located in Sakleshpur which is in Hassan District of Karnataka. It is situated on the banks of the River Hemavathi.One can find this temple right at the entrance of the city. It is also believed that Sakleshpur derived its name from this temple.This temple was constructed approximately between the 11th to 14th centuries. During this time period the Hoysala Empire was at its peak in South India. The temple thus showcases the beautiful Hoysala architecture. There is also a beautiful huge statue of Lord Shiva here. Also since this temple is along the banks of River Hemavathi the view around is wonderful to look at. This temple also celebrates the rath yatra festival every year in the month of February and many people come there during that time.

The nearest airport to this place is the Mangalore Airport. From there one will have to take either a bus or a taxi to reach the temple. There are many KSRTC buses that one can take to reach the temple.One can also drive to the temple in their own vehicle. Another way of reaching the temple would be to hire a taxi. The railway station closest to this temple is Sakleshpur Railway Station. From there one can take either a bus or a taxi to reach the temple. The best time to visit this place is from the months of October to March.

PLACES TO VISIT
Kadumane Estate: This is a beautiful place to visit. It is believed that the first recorded owners of this place were the Myddleton Family. Here, this family made an attempt to grow spices like cardamom, pepper and later they even tried to grow coffee but it was not of much use. Later this property was sold to another person whose name was Earl of Warwick but then again this place was never used.This property was sold again to Tea Estates India Limited and they were the ones who began to grow tea here. Thus one can take a walk through these beautiful tea plantations and also enjoy the scenic beauty around.
Parvathamma Betta: This is another beautiful hill which is located in Dyathapura village. In order to reach the temple on top of the hill one has to trek there. The trek to the top of the hill is an amazing experience. On top of this hill one finds a temple here that is dedicated to Goddess Parvathi and Lord Shiva. It is believed that because of this temple this hill came to be known as Parvathamma Betta. There are some artistic stone carvings in this temple which attract many people here. One should try and visit this hill during sunset as the view that time is a sight to behold and one gets to see the sun setting among the Western Ghats.
Agani Gudda: Is another hill which is located near Agani Village. It is considered to be one of the best places for trekking in Sakleshpur. Agani Gudda means Fiery Mountain and this hill is called so because this hill is prone to volcanic eruptions. Once the trek to this hill is completed and one reaches the top of the mountain one gets to see the surrounding rice fields. It is also possible to camp here. This is also a famous spot for shooting as many South Indian and Bollywood movies have been shot here.
Mookana Mane Falls: The Mookana Mane Falls is another tourist spot to visit. It is located in Kodagu.Earlier this waterfall was known as Jessi Waterfalls by the British. They did so in the memory of Madikeri's first captain's daughter. Now this waterfall is called Abbe or Abbi which means waterfall. Around this waterfall one finds coffee plantations and also various spice estates. One should come here during the monsoon season because it is the best time to visit the place and also because the flow of the water is very high during that time. Opposite to the Falls is a hanging bridge from where one gets to see scenic views. There is also a Kali Mata Temple on the other side of the bridge which one can visit.
Betta Byraveshwara Temple: Another place that one can visit is the Betta Byraveshwara Temple. It is quite famous for having a 600 year old ancient temple. A popular tale associated with this place is that when the Pandavas from Mahabharat were in exile they stayed here at this place for a short period of time. There are also many hills nearby where one can go trekking and also sightseeing.
Magajahalli Falls: Magajahalli Falls is another beautiful place to visit. It is situated at Magajahalli village which is located in the Hassan district. This waterfall is also known as Handbal Falls and also Abbi Gundi Falls. This waterfall is a popular picnic spot and one also gets to see the Pushpagiri Mountain range from here.
Manjarabad Fort: The Manjarabad Fort is another ancient fort located in the Hassan district of Karnataka. This fort is a star shaped fort and it was built by Tipu Sultan. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 3240 feet. The purpose behind building this fort was to store ammunition and also protect Tipu Sultan's army from the British. There is also a secret tunnel in this fort which will take one directly to Srirangapatna. This fort is located on a hill and thus one can view the surroundings very well. At times one also gets to see the Arabian Sea from the fort. This fort is currently maintained by the Archaeology Department.
