The tymology of the gill world translates to “Elephant Hill” in Kannada. The hill has a Hindu temple that is dedicated to a form of the Hindu god Vishnu called “Karigirivasa”. “Bairagi” for this do is derived from the fact that when “alankara” is made for the deity it looks like a Bairagi(mendicant). Now telling you a little about its history,it is referred to as Varaha Purana which has a meaning of “BlueMountain”. Regarding the temple structure, the main entrance has huge wooden doors which are the main sanctuary for Vaikunta Srinivasa in black stone which is flanked by Yoga Srinivasa and Bhoga.SrinivasaI dols.The temple of Goddess Padmavathi is to the west. And facing the main temple is a statue of Garuda and a Garudas thamba. The great sage Bhriguis said to have done thedeity´s Parth is tha pana (installationceremony).
How to get there?
To reach the hill can be by climbing stone steps, a total of 450 steps. Or by a paved road that is used to transport vehicles. One can have access to a panoramic view of Srirangapatna and Mysore. From there we can see the Nimishamba temple, which is on the opposite bank of the Lokapavani river. You can get there by train, where the nearest station is in Srirangapatna which is very close to other cities and facilitates the movement.

When should you visit Karighatta?
As we know it is a mountain and where it is located it is possible to visit any time of the year. And all the places nearby are always hot and stuffy in summer. Curiosities about the temple are many about is mythology because we are not sure if they really are as we hear and read today, but it is also said that in “VarahaPurana" it is said that when Lord Vishu took on the incarnation of Varaha and shook, somebody hairs have fallen to the floor and it is later believed that these hairsmy come from your hair.
