Transportation and best time to visit Pithrody Beach, Udupi

The Mangalore Airport is located close to this place. From the airport, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach the Pithrody River. Then one will have to take a boat to reach the beach. The Udupi Railway station is located close to this beach. From the railway station, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach Pithrody River. Then one will have to take a boat in order to reach the beach. There are many buses that one can take to reach the Pithrody River. If not by bus one can also travel by taxi or even drive down to Pithrody River and then accordingly take a boat from there to reach this beach. The best time to visit this beach is from the months of October to March.

Places to visit near Pithrody Beach, Udupi

Guddattu Vinayaka Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. There is a popular tale associated with this temple. According to this tale, it is believed that this idol was not installed in the temple nor was it sculpted and made. It is believed that this idol self-manifested in the rock many years ago. This huge rock is considered to be the home of the Lord and the devotees get to see the glimpse of the deity from outside through a small opening. The idol of Lord Ganesha is in the sitting posture and one can see the idol because of the light emitted by the oil lamps. The Aayiram Kodi Abhisheka is a ritual of bathing the idol with one thousand pots of water every day from the well nearby and this is conducted only here every day. The purpose behind doing this ritual is to reduce the pain of God with the help of the cooling effect of the water.

Koti Theertha: This is a popular man-made tank and the locals and the tourists consider this tank to be very sacred. The tank is surrounded by colorful temples, monasteries, and residences. The Hindu priests and the monks sit close to the water under a shed and conduct all the rituals there. Towards the west side of this tank, one finds lotus leaves in the water. At the centre of the water, there is a small Shiva Lingam and a tall lamp which is lit in the evening. This tank is also used for immersing idols.

The Shri Vinayaka Shankaranarayana Durgamba Temple: It is located in the town of Nandavara. This temple is situated on the banks of the River Netravati. It is an old temple that has been renovated. The temple is a spiritual centre and it is also a centre for social welfare activities. In this temple, one finds the new garbhagrihas of Lord Vinayaka, Lord Shankara Narayana, Sri Durgamba. The new additions to this temple are a bhojanshala, the Nanda Deepa Auditorium, and a community tower. The temple management also conducts eye checkup camps, as well as free mid-day meals, are given to the devotees. The Jatra Mahotsava is celebrated here on a grand scale.

The Shri Karinjeshwara Temple: Is a nice place that one can visit. It is located in Karanja. The temple is situated on a peak. One has to climb approximately 355 steps to reach the temple. From the top one gets to see an amazing view of the surroundings. This temple is divided into two parts one part is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the other part is dedicated to Goddess Parvathi and Lord Ganesha. The temple has also been a witness to all four yugas. The festival of Shivaratri is celebrated here on a grand scale. Many people visit this temple during the festival. This festival is celebrated for four days. On the second day of this festival, the idol of Lord Shiva is united with the idol of Goddess Parvathi. The Rathotsava takes place on the third day of this festival. On the fourth day of this festival, both the idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi are taken on a stroll together. In this temple, one is also allowed to feed apes.

Panambur Beach: This beach is clean and well maintained. One gets to see an amazing sunrise and sunset here. The district authorities organize carnivals at this beach and if one goes there during the carnival the whole atmosphere is quite energetic and fun. Tourists can also indulge in many water sports here.
