Padubidri Beach is another famous beach in Udupi. It is located in the town of Padubidri that is well known for the Dakke Bali ritual which is held once in two years. The farthest corner of this beach is called Padubidri endpoint because it is here that the river meets the sea. This beach is very clean and it is well kept as well. In terms of its size, this beach is long and sandy. There are many palm trees at this beach. Many park benches have been installed at this beach and also the main portion of the beach has been filled with interlock tiles. One can enjoy a good sunrise and sunset while sitting on these benches here. At the time of sunset, one can also see the lights flashing from the lighthouses which are located at Surathkal and also Kaup. One can also indulge in various water sports and adventure rides here like speed boat ride, banana boat ride, water scooters ride, etc. People can also play volleyball at this beach. Many events like fairs, tournaments, competitions, and musical programs are held at this beach. There is another interesting thing that happens at this beach. The tourist can watch the sun setting in the west and also the moon rising from the east at the same time on certain days in a year. One can also enjoy a good swim here but only after the monsoon season. This beach has also received a blue flag certification


Transportation and best time to visit Padubidri Beach, Udupi

The Mangalore Airport is located close to this beach. From the airport, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach this place. There are many buses that one can take to reach this beach. If not by bus one can also travel by taxi to reach this place. One can also drive down to this beach in their own private vehicle. The Padubidri Railway station is close to this place. From the railway station, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach the beach. The best time to visit the beach is from the months of October to March.

Places to visit near Padubidri Beach, Udupi

Mahalingeshwara Maha Ganapathi Temple: This temple is located at Padubidri. It is dedicated to Lord Mahalingeshwara and also Maha Ganapathi. The carvings and images in this temple are considered to be almost over a thousand years old. This temple is well known because of its car festival that takes place once a year here. The entire temple during the festival is lit up with lights. There is also a chariot at this temple that is decorated with lights. This chariot is pulled at midnight around the temple. After this a display of brilliant fireworks takes place. Many people visit the temple during this festival.

Padubidri Brahmasthana: The place is also called Sri Khadgeshwari Brahmasthana.  This place is considered to be very sacred in the town. It is located in the midst of a small forest. The place is dedicated to Goddess Khadgeshwari who is also called Goddess Vanadurga. The famous Dakke Bali Festival that is held once in two years is held here at this Brahmasthana and it is a sacred event. This event takes place between mid-January and mid-March but only on certain nights.

The Kadri Manjunatheshwara Temple: This temple showcases the Vijayanagara style of architecture which dates back to approximately to the 10th and 11th century AD. It is believed that this temple has a history of hundreds of years. The temple is dedicated to Lord Manjunatha or Lord Shiva. The hillocks of the Kadri Hills here have many caves which have been cut into the hill. It is the Heggade Family who carries out all the traditional religious ceremonies in this temple. This family has dedicated their lives to the development of this temple and they are also patrons of art, literature, philosophy, etc. At the back of this temple, there is an elevated point and one finds a natural spring there called Gomukha. The people believe that water from this spring flows from the River Bhageerathi in Kashi. This is why the spring is also called Kashi Bhageerathi Theertha. Those who visit this temple take a dip in this water before entering the temple as they believe that they get cleansed.

The Pilikula NisargaDhama: This is a major eco-education and tourism project which is promoted by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration. This Pilikula NisargaDhama is an integrated theme park that has many attractions of cultural, scientific and educational interest. The park is spread over an area of approximately 370 acres. It comprises a tropical forest and also the beautiful Pilikula Lake. This project currently includes a Biological Park, a Science centre, a Lake Park with a boating centre, a Golf course, etc. There are other things that are being developed at this Park.

Kadri Park: is another famous tourist attraction. It is the most popular jogging spot and also a picnic spot. The park is a large garden and many different types of animals are found here. In the animal conservatory here one gets to see various species of birds, anteaters, etc. There was a major renovation done at this Park because of which it became so popular. At this Park now there is also a musical fountain show, a laser light show and also a flower show that is held here every year. One also finds a toy train here that takes the person around the park compound.
