Mattu Beach is one of the quietest places that one can visit. This beach is a tropical paradise. On one side of this beach is the sea and on the other side of this beach, one finds the backwaters. One finds beautiful coconut trees and palm trees at this beach. The place is a good picnic spot. It is also a nice beach to watch an amazing sunset. The atmosphere at this beach is also very pleasant. An interesting thing to note about this beach is the sea sparkling here at night. The water actually glows and gives out a blown light in the dark which happens because of the blooming of a microorganism that is called Noctiluca which when disturbed gives out the bioluminescence. This phenomenon is amazing to watch. The beach is also famous for its mattu gulla that is a special variety of eggplant which is grown in this area. Many people who love food like this mattu gulla because of its unique taste.

The Mangalore Airport is located close to this place. From the airport, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach the beach. The Udupi Railway Station is located close to the beach. From the railway station, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach this place. One can also drive down to this beach. There are many buses that one can take to reach this beach. If not by bus one can also travel by taxi to reach this place. The best time to visit this beach is from the months of December to February.

Places to visit near Mattu Beach, Udupi

Ezhimala Beach: There are beautiful coconut and palm trees here. At this beach, one can watch a beautiful sunrise and sunset. On this beach one also finds scattered sculptured stone pillars which add more beauty to the landscape. There are also many medicinal plants that are found here. The beach also has some mythological and historical importance. It is believed that Lord Buddha stopped at this beach while traveling all around the world. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman which many people visit. Next to this beach one also finds a hillock. Mount Deli Lighthouse is also located close to this beach and one can visit that. The atmosphere at this beach is very pleasant too.

Valiyaparamba: Another place that one can visit is Valiyaparamba. This place is a coastal island with beautiful backwaters. The size of this island is approximately 16 sq. km. A national waterway passes through this island. The backwaters here are very beautiful. If one is a boat they can enjoy a good ride here and see the coconut trees, the birds flying around, etc. This island is also popular for its mussel cultivation. One can also enjoy and have a good time at the Valiyaparamba beach on this island. The Malabar Mangrove trail is also not very far away from here and when one goes there they can indulge in various activities like hiking, boating, etc.

Panambur Beach: Panam means money and ur means place. The beach is owned by a private enterprise which is the Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project.  The purpose behind this project is to educate more and more people on keeping beaches clean. This beach has been awarded for being one of the cleanest and best-maintained beaches in India. Several events take place on this beach like boat racing, sand sculpture competitions, kite festival, etc. The International Kite Festival is held here every two years. There is also a carnival of more local kite festivals held here. Other than this various promotional programs, weddings and parties are also held at this beach.

Tannirbhavi Beach: This beach has beautiful golden sand and fresh air which helps a person to relax. The atmosphere at the beach is also pleasant. It is an extremely scenic location. There are proper seats made at the beach for one to sit. One cannot swim in the sea here because it is not safe. This beach also has lifeguards to keep an eye on people in case of an emergency. However one can indulge in various water sports at the beach. Recently this beach has been gaining popularity because of the installation of modern facilities here like proper washrooms, parking spaces, lifeguards, and also many eatery stalls.

Sultan Battery: The place is also called Sultan Bateri. This is a watchtower that was built by Tipu Sultan. It is made up of black stones. The purpose behind building this watchtower was to keep an eye on the enemies and invaders before the fight and also during the fight. This watchtower is surrounded by the Arabian Sea. So one could also keep a watch on the attacking ships before and during a war. In the basement of this tower, one finds chambers that were used to keep weapons. In these chambers, even canyons and gunpowder were stored. From this watchtower, one gets to see an amazing view of the Arabian Sea.

Ullal Beach: Is a very well-known tourist attraction. This beach has a long coastline and gets to see the beautiful Arabian Sea. At this beach, one finds many casuarinas and palm trees. One can enjoy a good swim in the water here. There are also many water sports activities here that one can indulge in. The tourist can also enjoy some local food at the eateries here.
