Tourist attraction in Mandagadde

The main tourist attraction in Mandagadde is the Mandagadde bird's sanctuary that is 32 kilometres from Shimoga town on the way to Thirthahalli. This is one of the 20 bird sanctuaries in India. It, however, occupies a relatively smaller place as compared to other sanctuaries. Only stands in a 1.14 hectares piece of land and is home to over 5000 birds and immigrating birds. It is an excellent place to take photos. The sanctuary is located in an island surrounded by river Tunga and dense forest. A stand has been erected for visitors to look at the birds. Those who want to have a closer viewing of the birds can use a boat.  Accommodation is not available in the bird's sanctuary but can be found in Shimoga town.

1.      Gajanur dam


Gajanur dam is an exciting spot for tourist constructed across River Tunga. In addition, it is only 12 kilometres from Shimoga town. Its place known as the bathing place for elephants and is well protected throughout the year. Due to this, there are times of the year when people are restricted from going to the dam, especially when the water levels have risen. The dam is 770m long.

2.      Jog falls


Jog falls, also known as Jogada Gundi, and Gerussoppe falls a very famous tourist attraction in Shimoga. Its located 100 kilometres from Shimoga town on river Sharavathi. It is a very impressive fall with a height of 829 feet's. It the highest plunge fall in Karnataka, the fall is the 11th highest in India. This is situated in a forested place and is an excellent place to trek to the fall. You will enjoy the roaring noise produced by the fall.

3.      Kodachadri


This is a mountain peak in Karnataka and is 113 kilometres away from Shimoga. Its ranked 13th among the mountain peaks in Karnataka. The environment around it provides the right trekking place for visitors. Trekking starts in the base of the peat at Nagodi village. Visitors should know that camping is not allowed in Kodachadri.

4.      Agumbe


Agumbe is a tiny village in Shimoga and is sometimes known as the cobra capital because of the high number of cobras found in there.  Agumbeis situated in the hilly parts of Shimoga and has the highest rainfall in the region.  Agumbe is famous for the oldest research station, which maintains the rainforest in the village. It is also home to the rarest medicinal plants. Visitors here can enjoy trekking in this fantastic landscape. Visiting Agumbe is not much of discovery but enjoying the beautiful scenery, seeing the most unique medicinal plants and the rainforest.

How to reach Mandagadde?

Rail- there is no railway station in Mandagadde. The nearest railway station is in Shimoga town, which is 10 kilometres from Mandagadde. Other near railway stations are in Bhadravati and Masarahalli, which are 32 and 34 kilometres away respectively. International visitors can use Bajpe airport in Mangalore to get to Mangadabbe. Form there, they can use the road to connect to Mangadabbe. Other railways stations are Hubli and Mysore airports. The road is the main mode of transport you can use to travel to Mangadabbe. The major bus stations are in Shimoga and Mangalore.

When is the best time to visit Mangadabe?

If you are going to Mangadabbe, the Mangadabbe bird's sanctuary could be the place that you wanted to go. It's best to go to this place when you can find most birds, especially those who are migrating to this place. The peak season is from July to September when most birds are visiting the sanctuary. If you wanted to go to other places like Gajanur dam, the best time would be from October to March. From June to September the rainfall is very high, and the water levels are very high. At this time, you might find the dam closed.
