The Mallalli Waterfall is an extremely popular tourist destination. This waterfall is located at the foot of the Pushpagiri Mountain range. The Kumaradhara River is the main source of this waterfall. The water from this river happens to fall from over 200 feet in two steps which creates the Mallalli Waterfall. The waterfall is surrounded by beautiful green mountains and steep valleys. The water flow here is the highest during the rainy season. In order to reach the waterfall, one has to walk on the big concrete steps that will lead the person to the waterfall. Trekking here is quite popular. The hills around the waterfall make trekking interesting as the person is literally amidst nature and also at peace since the atmosphere here is quite pleasant. There are also coffee plantations and fruit orchards nearby which one can explore. One can also go river rafting around the Mallalli Waterfall.


TRANSPORTATION AND BEST TIME TO VISIT THE PLACE

Mysuru Junction is the nearest railway station to this place. From the station, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach the waterfall. One can also travel by bus to reach the waterfall. If not bus one can also travel by taxi to reach this place. The popular mode of transportation that is mostly taken to reach this place is a jeep which makes the ride to the waterfall a memorable one. One can also drive down to this waterfall in their own private vehicle.  The Mysore Airport is the closest to this place. From there one can take either a bus or a taxi to reach the waterfall. The best time to visit this waterfall is during the monsoon season.

Some of the names of the restaurants are Cauvery Hotel, Aloka Family Restaurant, Saphali Family Restaurant, The Nariyal Cafe, Hotel Akshayadhara Veg Restaurant, etc.


PLACES TO VISIT

One can visit Hoonamana Kere. It is a lake which is situated in Doddamalthe village. This lake is also considered to be the biggest natural lake in the region. The beautiful lake is surrounded by mountains, cliffs and also coffee plantations, and other two hills which are Gavi Betta and Mori Betta. The atmosphere at this lake is quite calm and pleasant and those who visit this lake can enjoy a peaceful time here. The visitor can also engage in activities like boating and fishing here. This place is also good for clicking amazing pictures. The lake is also considered to be religiously important as it was named after the Goddess Hoonamana who sacrificed her life to save this village and that is why one finds the Hoonamana Temple located adjacent to this lake.

 

Another place that one can visit is the Bisle Ghat Viewpoint. From this viewpoint, one gets to see amazing views of three mountain ranges which are Kumara Parvatha, Pushpagiri Mountain, and Dodda Betta, and also other beautiful streams. This place is also quite famous for trekking. The Bisle Reserve Forest is also situated here. One finds various types of flora and fauna in this forest such as peacocks, monkeys, elephants, etc.

 

The Pushpagiri Mountain Peak is a good place to visit. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 5626 feet. This peak is also considered to be the sixth highest peak in Karnataka. The Harangi river originates here from the top of the hill. This place is considered to be really good for trekking. It is surrounded by forests, valleys, and hills which makes the atmosphere quite pleasant. At the top of this peak, one finds a temple that is dedicated to Kumara Swamy. Most people start the trek from here and end it by visiting the Kumara Parvatha.

 

An interesting place that one can visit is the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is considered to be one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the world because one finds many endangered species of birds here. This place is also a World Heritage Site. In the sanctuary one also finds many waterfalls and streams. One can spot here various types of animals such as Indian Hare, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Mouse Deer, etc. The birds that one gets to see here are Nilgiri wood pigeon, small Sunbird, blue-winged parakeet, etc. There are also reptiles that one finds here which are King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, etc.

 

Gadigge which is also known as Raja's Tomb is another nice place to visit. The monument highlights the Indo Saracenic style of architecture which was quite popular during those times. The tombs here are built in the Muhammadan style where the tombs are located in the centre with turrets at the corners. There is a statue of Lord Shiva placed inside since the King happened to be a Hindu which is quite interesting because most of the tombs happen to be associated with Muslim Kings and their dynasties. One finds three tombs here which were built for the royal dynasty.

 

The Kukke Subramanya Temple is located on the banks of the River Kumaradhara. This temple is considered to be almost 5000 years old. It is also one of the seven holy places which were created by Saint Parashurama. There are many tales that are associated with this temple. One of them is that the divine serpent Vasuki took refuge here when it was being hunted by Garuda which was the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. The other one states that Lord Kumaraswamy and Lord Ganesha killed the demon rulers Tharaka and Shura Padmasurya at Kumara Parvatha which is closeby to this temple. After this, it is believed that Lord Kumaraswamy then married Devasena who was the daughter of Lord Indra. All the Gods attended this marriage because of which this place was bestowed with divine powers. Thus religiously this place is very important. The main deity of this temple is Lord Subramanya.
