Kheerganga trek is one of the most stunning treks in Himachal. The huge mountains, the hot water pool, and the beautiful natural atmosphere add to the beauty of this trek. Kheer Ganga is nestled at an altitude of 3,978 meters i.e. 13,051 feet above sea level.
Many ancient beliefs are also attached to this place. According to the people here, earlier due to the divine vision of Lord Shiva at this place, the river of Kheer used to flow due to which the name of this place was named Kheer Ganga. However, later the crowd started increasing here, due to which the curse was given by Parashuram, then the river of Kheer stopped flowing out from here, but now a cream of milk is visible in the river. It will take you around 2 days to complete this entire trek. Completing this trek is not such a difficult task, people of any age can easily go here. So if you are going on the trek for the first time then you do not have to worry about anything. Due to being covered with snow, this trek seems like a paradise in winter, although it is not safe to go on the trek in extremely cold weather. Apart from Barsheni village of Kullu, there are three other routes to reach this trek, let's know about those routes in brief.
Nakhtan Route: One of the most popular routes to Kheerganga, Nakhtan Route is the most commonly used route. This is because it is the easiest way to reach Kheerganga. However, to reach Kheerganga by this route, you will have to travel about four hours. During this route, you will get the privilege of seeing huge mountains with beautiful green valleys along with the Parvati river.
Kalga Route: It is not that easy to walk on this route. You will need a guide here as compared to other routes as there is a danger of forgetting the way. In the middle of this trek, you will get the opportunity of seeing many beautiful dense forests.
Tosh Village: Another way to reach Kheerganga is via Tosh village. This beautiful village is a better place for an overnight stay. There are many homes stays here where you will have to spend only 200 or 300 rupees for the stay. During this route, you will also be able to get acquainted with the beauty of the Tosh river.
While going on the Kheerganga trek, you may have to face minor health issues, so it is necessary to keep medicines for the treatment of headaches, stomach upset, and other diseases. Due to the extreme cold, you may also need a raincoat, full sleeves thin jackets, monkey cap, trekking shoes, warm socks, muffler, cold cream, lip balm, LED torch, hot water bottle.
By Air: You can simply reach the Kheerganga trek by air. You will find the nearest airport at Bhuntar which is at a distance of 52 km from Manali. From New Delhi and Chandigarh, you can catch flights to reach Bhuntar. Many private taxis are also parked outside the airport from where you can take a taxi to reach Barsheni Village, Nakhtan Route, Kalga Route, Tosh Gaon and start your journey to Kheerganga from there.
By Bus: It is also an easy way to reach the Kheerganga trek by road. You can reach Manali or Barsheni from Delhi by bus. From there you can start your journey to Kheerganga.
April and October is the best month for trekking on the Kheerganga trek. However, avoid trekking here during the rainy season. While trekking here from April to October, you will be able to get acquainted with the natural beauty around this place.
If you want to reach Kheerganga from Barsheni village, then staying in Manali is a better option, here you will find many hotels to stay. However, if you want to start your journey from Tosh village then you can stay at the homestays available in the village. There are many affordable homestays in Tosh village. Staying in Tosh village is a better decision for budget-conscious people.
