Places to visit near Kaup Beach, Udupi

Padukere Beach: In order to reach this beach, one can use the new bridge that has been built recently. This beach has backwaters that cover a distance of approximately 3 kilometres. The beach is quite scenic in nature. There are also not many people at this beach. One can watch a beautiful sunrise and sunset at this beach. From this beach, one can spot a few islands as well. The atmosphere at this beach is also very pleasant.

Padubidri Beach: It is located in Padubidri town. Most of the people who stay in this town belong to the Tuluva ethnic group. This beach is quite well maintained. It is also a good place to watch a beautiful sunset. The beach is quite sandy and there are many palm trees at the beach. Many park benches have been installed at this beach for people to sit and relax and also watch this beautiful beach. This beach is quite adventurous as one can indulge in various water sports here like speed boat, water scooter, banana boat ride, etc. There are also many events like fairs, tournaments, competitions, and musical programs that are held here. This beach has also received a blue flag certification.

Yellur Shri Mahathobhara Vishwanath Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in the village of Yellur. The temple is believed to be approximately 1000 years old. People pay respect to the deity here by offering tender coconut Abhishekam, earthen lamps which are lit using coconut oil, and also gold coins. One finds shrines dedicated to other deities like Lord Vinayaka and Goddess Annapoorneshwari here as well. There is also a Bhagirathi temple located close by. The architecture of this temple is quite noteworthy as it is built in the Devaayathana style of architecture. Many people visit this temple during the month of November and December in order to celebrate the festival of Laksha Deepotsava when one lakh glowing lamps are lit and it gives this temple a golden glow. 

Ullal Beach: This beach is located near the Western Ghats in the Ullal town. The beach is an ideal place to watch a good sunrise and sunset.  One finds palm trees here and the sand here too is quite smooth. The atmosphere here is also very pleasant because of the sea breeze that flows. There are restaurants close by to this beach that cook delicious food. The people at the restaurant cook fishes that have been freshly caught from the sea which makes the food all the more tasty.

Mudipu Hill: One has to trek to reach the top of this hill. This hill is also a good picnic spot. From the top of this hill, one gets to see an amazing view of Mudipu. There is also a shrine here which is called St. Joseph Vaz Shrine. A popular tale is associated with this shrine. According to it Fr Joseph Vaz who was a parish priest had become very popular because of which some people began to plot against him. One day those same people who plotted against him asked him to come with them in order to treat a sick person. So he went with them and once they reached Mudipu Hill those people made an attempt to kill Fr. Joseph Vaz. As soon as he was attacked the priest knelt and began to pray. A miracle took place then. Water came out from the ground from three different directions and seeing this those who tried to kill the priest immediately ran away. One gets to see these springs even today. It is also believed that the water from this spring has healing powers.
