Kangchenjunga, popularly known as the world's third-highest peak, is situated at an altitude of 8586 meters above sea level in the Himalayas. Kangchenjunga is also known as the "Five Treasures of Ice". The biggest reason behind Kangchenjunga being known as the Five Treasures of Ice is the divine storehouse of gold, silver, gems, grains, and holy books present on each peak. The main, central, and southern peaks share the border with North Sikkim of India and the Taplejung district of Nepal. The other two peaks are completely located in Nepal. Apart from this, there are 12 other peaks in the Kangchenjunga region which are about 23,000 feet high.

Due to these qualities of Kangchenjunga, many trekkers come here every year for trekking. However, you will be surprised to know that very few people are permitted to reach the peak. There are many mythological stories associated with this peak. The Lepcha species living in the foothills of Kangchenjunga believe that a demon lives on this mountain which is capable of changing its shape according to its wish.

On the other hand, some people also believe that the first two human beings of the earth were born on the top of Kangchenjunga and due to these mythologies, very few people have been able to muster the courage to climb this mountain to date. Along with natural beauty, Kangchenjunga is also considered the home of various endangered species. Here you will find a variety of endangered species of animals including various species of orchids, snow leopard, Asiatic black bear, Himalayan musk deer, red panda, blood pheasant, and brown chested partridge.

Before Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga was considered the highest peak in the world. However, after the Great Trigonometric Survey of India in 1849, Mount Everest was declared the highest peak based on various arguments. To date, Kangchenjunga is officially considered the third highest peak. The peaks here have preserved their ancient beauty even today. Here different colours can be seen at different times of the day, which adds more beauty to this mountain.
