Kalyanpura is a small hamlet which is located in Tonse East. This hamlet is situated on the south bank of the Suvarna River.  This place was mentioned by a Greek merchant Cosmos Indicopleustes. Kalyanpura had also been at its peak during the reign of the Keladi Nayakas.  The hamlet is developed with modern-day facilities like schools, hospitals, colleges, transport, etc. Here one also finds the ruins of a fort that belongs to the Vijayanagara era. There are also two beautiful churches and six temples which are dedicated to different Gods here. The people who live at this place have been staying here for very long. There are also few people who associate their surname to this hamlet.

The Mangalore Airport is located close to this place. From the airport, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach this hamlet. The Udupi Railway station is close to this place. From the railway station, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach Kalyanpura. There are many buses that one can take to reach Kalyanpura. If not by bus one can also travel by taxi to reach this hamlet. The best time to visit this place is from the months of October to March.

Places to visit near Kalyanpura, Udupi

Mount Rosary Church: This Church was built approximately in 1837. During this time the Goan schism was taking place. There were some Catholic families who left the Milagres Cathedral and they recognized the jurisdiction of the Vicar Apostolic of Verapoly. They then built this Church which is not very far away from the Milagres Cathedral. This Church has undergone renovation a number of times. The new Church building was inaugurated in 2015. The high altar of the Church is quite noteworthy. Artists and Architects from Kerala, Korathi have built this altar. The Way of the Cross too has been depicted in the Mosaic style and this too is an attraction of the Church.

Shri Venkataramana Temple: It is located at Karkala. This temple is also called Padu Tirupati or even Western Tirupati. The temple is dedicated to Lord Srinivasa who is a form of Lord Vishnu. This temple is extremely important especially to Gaud Saraswat Brahmins. The festival of Vanabhojana is celebrated on a grand scale. During this time the idols at the temple are taken out in procession and the festival at a place which is near Bhuvanendra College. The Rathotsava festival is also celebrated here. This temple also runs a few educational institutions in the area.

The Mallikarjuna Temple: is another place that one can go to. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located at Kasaragod. The Iyer Kings built this temple. The walls at this temple here have beautiful paintings on them. One should watch the ritual performances at this temple.

Someshwar Beach: It is located in Ullal. This beach has a long coastline. The sand here is also glittery gold. There are also rock boulders here which are called Rudra Shile. The Someshwara Temple is located at this beach. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The people believe that the rocks at this beach have something to do with the temple being there. The waters at this beach are not safe for swimming.

The Bejai Museum: It is also called the Srimanthi Bai Government Museum. In this museum, one finds a collection of ancient coins, paintings, statues, inscriptions that depict the rich heritage of India. The most prominent thing here for one to see is the copper inscription that contains verses of the Keladi Venkatappa Nayak which date back approximately to 1624 AD.

Jamalabad Fort: This fort was also called Narasimha Angadi. It is located in Belthangady. The altitude of this fort is approximately 1700 feet. The fort was built on the ruins of an old Hoysala Fort. Tipu Sultan built this fort. It was built in the year 1974. He has named the fort after his Mother whose name was Jamalbee. From the top of this fort, one gets to see an amazing view of the mountains, the agricultural fields, the rivers, and also the valley.

Sammilan Shetty's Butterfly Park: This park was set up in the year 2011. Sammilan Shetty a young nature lover and a butterfly enthusiast set up this Park. It is located at Beluvai near Moodabidri. In this Park, one finds a variety of butterflies that belong to this region. This park is made of natural greenery. The park respects the freedom of these butterflies and there is no obstruction made to keep and trap them in the park. Only at certain times, suitable conditions are created in order to attract butterflies to the park. This park aims to educate visitors including children regarding butterflies and also highlight why is it necessary to conserve them. There is also a PowerPoint show and lecture here on butterflies. One also finds here a park walk-through where visitors can actually see butterflies, their eggs, caterpillars, etc all in their natural habitat.

The New Mangalore Port: This port is located in Panambur. It is a major port in Karnataka and also the seventh largest port in the country. All the projects which are associated with this port were started in 1962. At this port primary commodities are imported and also exported.
