Unchalli Waterfall: This waterfall is also called as Lushington Falls beacuse it is believed that J.D. Lushington who was a district collector of the British Empire discovered this waterfall in 1845 and thus the waterfall got the name Lushington. Another name that this waterfall is known by is Keppa Joga because of the deafning sound that it makes. This waterfall is created because of the 116 metre drop in the Aghanashini River. This river then takes a deep plunge to create this beautiful waterfall. One has to trek to reach this waterfall.
Yana village: This place is quite popular because of its unique rock formations in the Western Ghats. The Bhairaveshwara Shikara and Mohini Shikara are two massive rock formations that one gets to see in this village. These huge rocks are actually made up of black crystalline karst limestone. The height of the Bhairaveshwara Shikara is approximately 390 feet. At the base of this Shikara one finds a cave temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Water from the rocks there falls on the Shiva Linga and the people call this water as Gangodbhava. The height of the Mohini Shikara is approximately 300 feet. At the base of this Shikara one finds an idol of Goddess Parvathi. Many trekkers, pilgrims and all those who love adventure visit this place. The Shivaratri festival is celebrated here on a grand scale.
Benne Hole Falls: It is located close to the Kasage village. This waterfall is formed because of the tributary of the Aghanashini river that flows in the Devimane Ghat region. The height of this waterfall is more than 200 feet. This waterfall is called as Benne Hole because it looks churning and like creamy white butter. Thus the term Benne means butter and hole means big stream in Kannada. The waterfall is a good place for bird watchers as they get to see many birds here like the plum headed parakeet, common kestrel, orange minivet, black headed oriole,etc.
Sirsi: Is a small and beautiful hill station which one can visit. This hill station is situated at an altitude of approximately 2000 feet. At this place one finds many religious places, waterfalls and even forests with abundant flora and fauna. Earlier during the reign of the Sonda dynasty this place was called Kalyanapattana. This place also happens to be a major trading centre for areca nut. The region is also quite popular for its spices like pepper, cardamom,bettel leaves, etc. This hill station is also a good place for trekking. The Sri Marikamba festival is celebrated here and many tourists visit this place during that time.
Koosalli Waterfall: This waterfall is located in a deep forest near Koosalli village. The height of this waterfall is approximately 380 feet. One has trek as well do rock climbing to reach this waterfall. Since this waterfall is located in a deep forest the atmosphere is quite peaceful and serene which calms the visitor and gives them a break from their stressful life.
Banavasi: This place is an ancient town which is quite popular for its temples. The town is also known as Konkanapura. It is also considered to be the oldest town in the state of Karnataka. Bana means forest and vasi means spring. Thus the name Banavasi originated from these words. This place was once the capital of the Kadamba dynasty. Prior to the Kadamba dynasty Banavasi was under the rule of other dynasties like the Satvahanas, Chutu and Pallavas. Later this town was also ruled by Tipu Sultan and after his death it was conquered by the British. The Madhukeshwara Temple is a popular attraction of this town. It is considered to be as one of the oldest temples in Karnataka. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In this temple one finds a honey coloured Shiva Linga. Because of the color of the Shiva Linga the temple is called Madhukeshwara Temple. This temple is built entirely of granite rocks. One also finds a beautiful monolithic Nandi statue in this temple. There is an annual cultural festival called Kadambotsava which is organized by the state Government and this festival is celebrated on a large scale which attracts many tourists to this place.
