Honnemaradu is a small and beautiful town which is blessed with abundant greenery. This town is located close to the backwaters of the Sharavathi River and is also considered to be the home for a variety of water sports. One can indulge in a variety of water sports here such as windsurfing, kayaking, scuba diving, coracling,boatings, etc. It is also possible to go hiking here. The Mangalore Airport is the closest to this place. From the airport one can take either a bus or a taxi to reach Honnemaradu. The Shimoga Railway station is the closest to this place. From the railway station one can take a bus or a taxi to reach Honnemaradu. There are many buses that one can take to reach Honnemaradu. If not bus one can also travel by taxi to reach this place. The best time to visit this place is from the months of October to December and March to April.

Places to visit near Honnemaradu, Shimoga

Jog Falls: This waterfall is also called Gerusoppa Falls, Jogada Falls, etc. The waterfall is considered to be one of the highest waterfalls in India. The beauty of the waterfall is that it is located amidst dense forests and it is also surrounded by a lot of vegetation. During the rainy season this waterfall offers the viewer a breathtaking sight. The viewer is able to see beautiful rainbows near the waterfall every now and then during the rains. Tourists can also go hiking to the base of this waterfall.

Honnemaradu Reservoir: The place where this reservoir is built used to be a village earlier. After this dam was built the village remains sparsely populated. Today, at this place one finds Honnemaradu Lake. At this lake one can also indulge in many water sports.

Burude Falls: Burude in Kannada means the skull. One has to trek through a small creek to reach this waterfall during the summer season whereas during the winter season it is not possible to go to these falls at all. People can camp near this waterfall as well making it a good picnic spot as well.

Gaddemane: Is a small town close to Honnemaradu that can be visited. The people who belong to the Deeva community reside in this town. The Deeva community is well known for hand painting the walls of their houses.This town is also the home to a particular art form which is called Chitra Art. At this place one finds many handicrafts and also painted canvases.

Sagar City: This place is surrounded by dense forests and also beautiful waterfalls. This city is also quite close to Varadamoola from where the River Varada originates. The Sagar Marikamba Temple is quite famous here. This temple is also known as the Doddamma Temple. It was built approximately in the 16th century during the rule of Venkatappa Nayak.The family deity of the Nayakas was Goddess Marikamba. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvathi who is actually worshipped in the form of Goddess Marikamba. The Marikamba Jathra here is a popular festival celebrated at this temple.

Jali Beach: For all those who love visiting beaches they can visit Jali Beach. This beach is located in a fishing town which is called Bhatkal. The beach is surrounded by coconut trees and it also has a golden coastline which makes the landscape all the more beautiful and the atmosphere at the beach quite serene.

Khalifa Jamia Masjid: Is considered to be one of the eight old mosques in Bhatkal. The mosque is believed to be approximately 200 years old.It is located on the banks of the River Sharabi. This mosque was rebuilt with two rising minarets in 1972 making it a good place to visit.

Murudeshwar Temple: It is an ancient temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is located on a small hill which is called Kanduka Giri. This hill is surrounded by water on three sides. The temple has been built in the Dravidian style of architecture. It is mainly made of granite. This temple has a Gopura which is 20 feet high and on its side are two elephants who guard this. A Shiva Linga is in the sanctum of this temple. The Mahashivratri festival is celebrated at this temple on a grand scale and many people visit this place during the festival.

Murudeshwar Beach: This beach is located near the Murudeshwar Temple. The beautiful beach is surrounded by hills on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other side. There are coconut and areca groves closeby to this beach. One can enjoy a good sunset at this beach. The visitor can also indulge in swimming, fishing, boating and other water sports such as paragliding at this beach. There are handicraft items here which are made of a special type of grass making these articles unique and worth shopping.

Apsara Konda Falls: The water from this waterfall falls into a pond below. The place is called Apsara Konda because it is believed that angels from heaven used to come and bathe in this pond. An interesting thing to note about this pond is that it faces the sea and appears to be looking like a lagoon. One can enjoy a good swim in this pond.
