Tanzania, in East Africa, is a country that not only has a lot to offer in the form of majestic wildlife, savannas, and beaches, as well as historical places that are well worth a visit. 1. Stone Town, Zanzibar

The urban complex largely preserves its historic urban fabric and landscape. The buildings, their use, and the layout of the streets continue to express the exchange of human values ​​around the Indian Ocean. The building materials and skills used in the city are still widely used in the Zanzibar archipelago and the Swahili coastal area.

 Due to its historical significance and 19^th century stone architecture, Stone Town has declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 and is considered one of the most important historical and tourist attractions in Tanzania.  There are many attractions in Stone Town, including museums, monuments, and ancient iconic buildings influenced by Arabia, Persia, India, and Europe. It is said that the best time of year to visit is from June to October.

 

2. National Museum & House of Culture, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Wander through the History Room and Ethnographic Collection to learn about Tanzania’s past and cultural mosaic, including the Shirazi civilization of Kilwa, the Zanzibar slave trade, and  German and British colonial times. Despite the renovations,  the museum still has a lot of work to do on proper exhibits and curating a coherent narrative.

The eminently important National Museum opened in 1940 and has since played a central role in presenting Dar es Salaam, the culture and heritage of Tanzania to visitors. Exhibits at the museum include in-depth fossils dating back to human origins in the Olduvai Gorge. Guests have the opportunity to study the tribal customs of Tanzania. Learn about the colonial history of the country’s slave trade as you view traditional crafts, customs, jewelry, and musical instruments.

 

3. Village Museum, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The village museum offers a good overview of the type of architecture that can be found there. This open-air museum displays a collection of 19 authentically reconstructed residential houses displaying the traditional ways of life of various ethnic groups in Tanzania.

 The Village Museum aims to educate Tanzania and the world about the different ethnic groups that make up this diverse country. This takes the form of 16 unique ethnic huts from Tanzania on display. Other attractions include daily shows with traditional music and dancing, as well as a souvenir shop with traditional Tanzanian decorations and a selection of traditional foods.

 

4.Askari Monument, Dar es Salaam

This monument is significant as it honors the Askari soldiers who died in the British Corps during the First World War. It is located in a bustling and vibrant part of the city, at the roundabout of Samora Avenue and Maktaba Street. The monument was opened to the public in 1927, making it another historically significant aspect of the city.

The main feature of the monument is “The Askari”, a bronze statue of a soldier. It was made by British sculptor James Alexander Stevenson, who worked for the Morris Bronze Founders of Westminster. Stevenson signed the statue with the pseudonym “Myranda”.In the place where the Askari monument is located, there was another statue, namely that of the German explorer and army commander Hermann von Wissmann, governor of German East Africa in the late 19^th century

 

5. Nafasi Art Space, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The mission of this great institution is to be the premier multi-art center and creative hub in Dar es Salaam, celebrating the arts in its entirety. From concerts to art studios and different programs and structures to support and promote budding artists, this is definitely a place for people who want to learn a little more about the creative culture of Tanzania. They also take pride in the business aspect of the visual arts by creating training and exchange programs.

The Nafasi Art Space is a refuge and gallery for Tanzanian visual artists and designers in Tanzania’s Mikocheni Light Industrial Zone. It is run by a non-governmental organization and provides an environment in which artists can work, learn, meet people and show their creativity, with the word “Nafasi” meaning space in the local Swahili language.

 

6. Oldivai George, Zanzibar, Tanzania.

The Olduvai Gorge (also known as Oldupai) in northern Tanzania is a rich paleoanthropological site to visit during a safari and cultural vacation in East Africa. Located between the Ngorongoro Maasai Land and the Serengeti Wildlife Plains, the gorge is a deep gorge more than 48 kilometers (30 miles) long with a weathered monolith on which the layers of subsequent climatic changes can be seen millions of years.

 

7. Kilwa kisiwani, Tanzania

Kilwa, full-length Kilwa Kisiwani, a former Islamic city-state on an island off the coast of what is now southern Tanzania. Founded in the late 10^th century by settlers from Arabia and Persia (now Iran), it became one of the busiest commercial centers on the east coast of Africa. Briefly occupied by the Portuguese (1505-112), it gradually lost its importance and was eventually abandoned. Extensive ruins have been preserved, including mosques, a Portuguese fortress, and the great Husuni Kubwa Palace (13^th-14^th centuries).
