8 Kms from KR pet this place is situated by Kikere town or Govindhalli. Because of bad roads on the same stretch to reach Kikere town, it is advisable to take the route back. In monsoon, it is a feast to your eyes to watch the river full flow. Some Kannada movies use this spot for their film shooting as well.

1. LaxmiNarayana temple


LaxmiNarayana temple is the beautifully landscaped temple of Hosaholalu. Considered to be created in 1250 AD during the time of the Hoysala King VeeraSomeswara. Various forms of Vishnu & goddess and elephants along with the platform typical of Hoysala temples adorn the outer facade of the temple. The form this temple is built in is called trikutavimanasyle. Deities Venugopal, Naryana&Lakshminarasimha constitutes three statues here. Being mostly uninstalled or vandalized by the smugglers of antiques it is very rare that inside the temple sanctum sanatorium one may find idols. In Mandya district, this temple is located close to K R pet town.

2. Sivasamudram Island


You will find the tiny island town of Shivasamudram in Mandya district at approximately 65kms, East of Mysore. Here the River Cauvery meets in the fall mixing into Shivasamudram Falls. The falls stretch 893 metres. River Cauvery results and bends to join the Rivers Harangi, Hemavathi, LakshmanaThirtha and Kapila creating the number of waterfalls in the Western Ghats of Kodagu district at Talacauvery. This waterfalls has twin jumps, the GaganaChukki or the Western falls and the Bara/BharaChukki or the Eastern falls at Shivasamudram thus getting it a name of Bluff or Simsha.

3. Srirangpatnam Island


The island-fortress of Srirangapattana known as the former capital of the great kings, Hyder Ali, and his son, Tipu Sultan, the 'Tiger of Mysore' is located on the Cauvery River. The main tourist attraction is the fragments of the grand fortress that stands here. Its immense historical significance as it was the site of several battles fought against the British greatly get contradicted by its small size of the island. The island was initially named after the Sri Ranganatha Temple, one of the many ancient structures found here before getting its name as Srirangapatnam under British rule.

4. Karighatta temple


Outside the 'island' town of Srirangapatna by a few kilometres, you can see Karighatta. Just before Srirangapatna, it is situated off the Bangalore-Mysore road. In Kannada, the name translates to "Black Hill". The hill possesses Hindu temple dedicated to a form of Hindu deity Vishnu, called "Karigirivasa". This deity is also cited as "Lord Srinivasa", also named "BairagiVenkataramana". When 'alankara' (flower decoration) is done to the deity, the deity looks like a Bairagi (mendicant) thus getting its epithet 'Bairagi'. The hill stretches at a height of 2697 feet above sea level. Many tamarind and gooseberry trees are found around the temple and it supports dry scrub jungle. By the hill a tributary of Kaveri, a small river Lokapavani also flows.

5. Melkote


Melkote houses an ancient shrine to Vishnu, worshipped as TiruNarayana and is situated near Mysore in Karnataka. This shrine is famous for its long-standing league with the spiritual leader Ramanujacharya. Yadavagiri, yatistalam, Vedadri and Narayanadri are other names of Melkote. Every nook and corner of Melkote showcases our heritage and erudition. It rises at about 900 metres above the sea level. Scholars and musicians once considered this town the knowledge storehouse. Cheluvarayaswamy and Tiruanrayana are two main temples playing an important role in the life of town people here.

6. Srirangapatna


Srirangapatna also read as Srirangapattana, is the city of history, religion, and cultural hub situated in Madhya district of Karnataka, by about 13kms from Mysore. On Bangalore- Mysore Highway this is a must-see place. This entire town is like an island surrounded by river Kaveri. Once this history-rich town was considered as the capital of the Warrior-Kings Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan - The Tiger of Mysore.

7. Bheemeshwari Sanctuary


Mekedatu (Goat's Leap) is another set of falls one may find at the downstream of about 35 km. Bhimeshwari lies between these breathtaking cascades. This works as a perfect picnic spot for families and couple alike. Mahseer fish and other awesome animals can be found at this place as well. A place was definitely worth the visit.
