The most popular island for tourists, Havelock Island (new official name: Swarajdweep) is located about 70km north of the capital Port Blair. Swarajd Weep (Havelock Island) has white sands, blue waters, and some of the best dives on the continent. Havelock (Swaraj) is correctly known as the wonderland of travellers. Relax on a secluded beach or explore the dense and quiet mangroves. Swim between exotic corals while enjoying scuba diving, or step outside and explore the wilderness on a long jungle hike. Havelock? You can reach Havelock Island by sea and air, but the easiest way to get to Havelock is by sea. Private and government ferries operate from neighbouring islands (Port Blair and Neill Island). However, we recommend a private ferry as the booking is hassle-free and you don’t have to wait. Local transportation of Swirled Weep (Havelock Island) is fairly easy. The roads are well maintained and straight. Everything is along the way and the locals are so kind that you rarely get lost. It also helps to classify the beaches and villages of Havelock by number. These are some of the options we recommend:
1. Sightseeing taxi:
Sightseeing taxis can be rented from Havelock Pier. There is a driver waiting at the pier. Keep in mind that they can be overpriced and may require negotiation. If you are attending a package holiday, this is included in the package.
2. Bicycle rental:
The easiest way to get around Havelock Island is to rent a scooter. You can rent it every day for about 500 rupees a day. The gas station closes at 17:00. Make sure you have enough fuel. Avoid during the monsoon as the road can be slippery.
3. Auto Rickshaws:
Autorickshaws are also available and cost around INR 50 to 200 for short rides & 7001000 for a trip to Radhanagar Beach.
4. Public Transport:
Budget travellers can opt for shared jeeps and public buses for the commute within Swaraj Dweep(Havelock Island).
Havelock is known for its pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, and the variety of water sports that it has to offer.
