The Daria Bahadurgad Fort is a well-known fort which is located on one of the four rocky islands of Malpe Beach. This fort was built by Basavappa Naik of Bidanur. The fort is mostly in ruins today. But the view that one gets to see from the fort is amazing. Sunset is considered the best time to go to this fort because at that time the entire horizon changes to various shades of pink. The island on which this fort is small in size but one finds many scenic locations here. Near this fort, one finds many Manglorean Tile factories where one can go to and understand in a detailed manner as to how tiles are made. There are also a few famous temples near this fort which one can visit.

The Udupi Railway station is located close to this place. From the railway station, one can take a bus or a taxi to reach Malpe. Then from Malpe one will have to avail of the boat services to reach this fort. The Mangalore Airport is located close to this place. From the airport, one will have to take a bus or a taxi to reach Malpe. Then in order to reach this fort one will have to use the boat services from Malpe. There are many buses that one can take to reach Malpe and then use the boat services to reach the fort. If not by bus one can also travel by taxi to reach Malpe and then take a boat to reach the fort. The best time to visit this place is from the months of October to January.

Places to visit near Daria Bahadurgad Fort , Udupi

Antharagange: Antharagange actually means the Ganges from the deep. This is a mountain which is located in the Shathashrunga Mountain Range. It is an important religious spot because one finds a temple and a tank here that gets water from a spring. The mountain is also a good place for trekking, rock climbing, and other such fun activities. One finds wild monkeys here. The Kashi Vishweshwara Temple is located here. Kashi Vishweshwara is the main deity of this temple. One finds a Shiva Linga which is the main one in this temple. Other than this four to five other lingas are found to the side of the main Mantapa. When it comes to the tank of the temple it is believed that the water in it is the sacred Ganga that falls from the head of Lord Shiva. People even drink and bathe in this water because it is believed that it helps to cure any illness. On this mountain, one finds volcanic rocks of various sizes and also naturally carved caves around them. The entire Kolar town can be seen from this mountain.

St.Angelo Fort: This fort is also called Kannur Fort or Kannur Kota. The fort was constructed by the first Portuguese Viceroy of India. Later this fort fell into the hands of the Dutch and then the British. The fort appears to be like the shape of a triangle. This fort is built with laterite soil. It is built next to the sea. There is a sea wall that segregates the fort from the sea. One can see amazing views of Mappila Bay from there. In the fort, one finds cells and rooms which were used at the time of the British. There are also cells with a single hole from where food was given to the prisoners. One can click good pictures at this fort. This fort is also a famous shoot location of the South Indian film industry. The fort today is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The Arakkal Museum: Is another interesting place to visit. Earlier this place was the residence of the only Muslim Royal Family in Kerala. This place thus is a true witness to Muslim architecture and design. The Darbar Hall which was the place where the King and all his ministers gathered has been made into the Arakkal Kettu Museum. This museum is managed by the Arakkal Family Trust. In this museum, one finds artefacts and heirlooms that belong to the royal family and that includes things like the family seal, swords and daggers which the rulers used, royal copies of the Holy Quran, etc. The architecture of this museum is also quite noteworthy.

Mappila Bay: This place is also called Mopila Bay. It is a natural fishing harbour. Earlier Mappila Bay was a major port that connected Malabar to places that were far away. This bay is surrounded by St. Angelo Fort. There are boating facilities here that take the visitor around this harbour. One also finds a local market close to this bay that sells the fresh fish which is caught from the sea.

Meenkunnu Beach: The name of this beach is derived from two Malayalam words where Meen means fish and kunnu means hill. One can watch a good sunrise and sunset here. The sand here is a nice golden color and the coconut trees are wonderful to look at. The atmosphere here too is pleasant. The tourist can also enjoy a good nice walk at the beach. People can interact with the fishermen and also taste the yummy delicious food here.
