Located on Kodaikanal Lake's eastern side, Bryant Park is one of the most colourful attractions of Kodaikanal. Sprawling in an expanse of 20.5 acres, this park was established by H. D. Bryant (a forest officer from Madurai) in the year 1908. Boasting of over 325 species of trees, cactuses and shrubs, this park appears like a gorgeous rainbow when all its flowers bloom.
Here, there is a special section of roses, where you can find approximately 740 of its varieties. A 157-year old Eucalyptus tree is one of the park's main attractions. There is also a large and beautiful Bodhi tree that adds to the park a religious significance.
Bryant park, a botanical garden, is situated on the easternside of “The Lake''. Conceived and landscaped in 1980 by a British Army Office, Glenn Bryant. At this botanical garden, every year in the month of May, an annual flower and vegetable show is organised. In addition, it is one of the most visited attractions during the summer months. The garden also houses a glasshouse, which comprises a wide assortment of flowers, ferns and other ornamental plants. With 325 species of trees, shrubs and cacti, the park is a rainbow of stunning flowers during the peak season. A large section is devoted to around 740 varieties of roses. There is an 1857 Eucalyptus tree and a Bodhi tree which adds a religious significance to the park. Ornamental plants are cultivated in the nursery for sale. The park organises horticultural exhibits and flower shows every summer, to coincide with the peak season. The entrance fee to the park is nominal and it is open all year.
Bryant park is surprisingly well - maintained for a big park. It has a bewildering variety of flowers, all of which add to the surreal experience of the park. It is ideal for kids too, just make sure they don’t get carried away plucking those prized buds. It is a wonderful place to spend some quality time with family and friends and just ignore the crowds. After all, Bryant Park is the celebrity in town.
One of the many elements that add to the serenity of Kodaikanal is the infamous Bryant Park. The park is bejewelled with various species of plants and shrubs. They vary in a range of flowering plants, hybrids and grafts. Once you've had a stroll on the Coaker’s Walk, the pathway will lead you towards the park. It is a popular spot amongst families as they can set up a picnic area in the park and watch their kids run around and tumble in the grass. The park also educates and trains students of Ornamental Horticulture as it is also recognised as a demonstration centre.
Bryant Park is a popular attraction amongst tourists and locals alike. One section of the park is dedicated to an exotic rose garden that prides itself on the unique and rare species grown there. There is also a greenhouse where plants from all around the world thrive. The park also hosts an Annual Horticulture Show that draws gardening enthusiasts and horticulturalists. In the 2017 edition of the show, green roses were the main attraction that drew people from all over the country. Kodaikanal is deemed as one of the most serene places in India and Bryant Park hugely contributes to that title.
