Apsarakonda is an beautiful waterfall near Honnavar, in the district of Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, India. Close to the Apsarakonda beach, this beautiful waterfall flows through the cliffs down to paddy fields and joins the sea. This falls is not very deep and around 10m high, making it the best spot to enjoy with family. The Place is well maintained and also has a beautiful garden with many sunset and beach view points. Apsarakonda is located at approx 7km from Honnavar, 58km from Gokarna, 98km from Karwar, 182km from Goa, 78km from Jog Falls, 178km from Mangalore, 470km from Bengaluru.

Apsara Konda Falls has the enthralling beauty of its own pristine vicinity and mesmerizing loveliness of nature.  The zigzag water cascades drop down from the 10 meters height in a pond below.

The speciality of the pond appears like a lagoon while it faces the sea. Often the commoners state that it is like a lagoon which comes down directly from heaven. Thus, the name is given as Apsara Konda.  

The unique fact about the Falls is that the water gushes out of the peepal tree and descends down to the pond below. It is safe for swimming and playing too. 

As per the history, it is believed that the Pandavas spent their time in a cave here during their exile. Thus, the Apsara Konda hill has small and big caves which are also known as Pandava Caves.

From the place of Honavar, there is a swift and straight bus facility to the place, one of the peak places to visit in Murudeshwar. The frequency is much less. It is a good idea to hire a car to go to the Apsara Konda Falls. It is best to visit around the month of October to February. 

 

Description Of Apsara Konda Falls, Murudeshwar

At a distance of 500 m from Apsara Konda Bus Stop, 7 km from Honavar, 28 km from Kumta and 20 km from Murudeshwar, Apsara Konda Falls is a small waterfall located in the Uttara Kannada (North Canara) district of Karnataka. It is one of the scenic tourist places near Murudeshwar.

The water cascades down from a height of 10 meters into a pond below. The specialty of this pond is that it faces the sea and appears like a lagoon. People say that Angels used to come from heaven and take bath in that pond, hence the name Apsara Konda. Reaching the base of the waterfall is easy as steps have been built to make the trail easier for the public. A unique fact about the waterfall is that the water flows down through the roots of a peepal tree while descending to the pond below. The pond is very safe for swimming and playing.

Just a few mins walk from the falls is a magnificent hill which has a viewpoint. The hill and beach offer a beautiful view of sunset. Apsara Konda Hill contains many small and big caves known as Pandava Caves. People believe that Pandavas had stayed in these caves during their exile. The Karnataka tourism department has taken initiatives to develop this place as a major tourist attraction. The department built a beautiful park in the hillock and boating is initiated in the pond. As a result Apsara Konda is witnessing many tourists these days.

There is a beautiful temple - Umamba Maha Ganapathi and Ugra Narasimha Temple and a branch of Ramachandrapura Mutt, Hosanagar. Other tourist attractions near to the falls are Kasarkod beach, Basavaraja Durga and Idagunji Maha Ganapathi Temple.

From Honavar there is a bus facility to Apsara Konda but frequently there is quite less. Better to go by own vehicle or hire a vehicle from Honavar. There is a signboard after Kasarkod to reach Apsara Konda. Visitors have to take turns from this signboard and the waterfall is about 1.5 km from here.

 

Why Should One Visit Apsara Konda Falls, Murudeshwar?

Once you reach the place, you can see a temple.If we walk a few meters behind the temple through dense forest, we can see the Apsara falls. Apsara in Sanskrit means Angel. Surrounded by dense forest, the water is clean and not very deep. Hence one can enjoy near the falls. From there if we walk further up, we reach the top of a hill. The view from the viewpoint is mesmerising. Arabian sea, trees, paddy fields, sand beaches are really a treat for the eyes. There is a small garden close by. One won't feel like coming out of that place. So if you go to Gokarna or Murudeshwara, make it a point to visit Apsarakonda and the viewpoint. Also do not forget to carry food and water along with you. You will spend an enjoyable time there with your family.
